The luxury selection, COMETA by RiGo, Italy, crafted for creating stunning, trendy knitwear like voluminous sweaters, chic bombers, cardigans, and Chanel-style jackets. The yarn is a sophisticated, multi-component structure: three threads of richly colored, fluffy micro-bouclé Merino wool (available in various shades such as red, coffee, ivory, and grey) are combined with one thread of almost-black Polyamide/Polyester that incorporates an elegant Lurex element and "Shishibriki" (nubs/cocoons). This unique construction provides the softest Merino comfort, the fluffy volume of a micro-bouclé, and the chic glamour of Lurex, resulting in a fabric that is incredibly voluminous yet very lightweight. It has all the elegance and flair built right in.

🧶 My Knitting Experience with COMETA
I created two samples using COMETA to explore its structure and texture. The first sample was knitted with US 4 (3.5 mm) needles in a single thread, and after washing, the yarn bloomed beautifully — becoming even fluffier and softer. The fine black core thread gives depth and definition, while the lurex and bouclé merino wrap around it like a delicate halo. The result is a soft, lightweight fabric that’s perfect for elegant sweaters or vests.

The second sample was knitted in two threads using US 10 (6 mm) needles — creating a cozy, voluminous texture ideal for warm jackets or cardigans. You could even hold three strands together for a thicker, plush structure — just use larger needles to preserve the yarn’s airy softness. Despite its textured look, this yarn is not itchy at all, incredibly light, and feels luxurious against the skin.

🧶 Recommended Needles & Hooks (Based on 3-Ply Knitting)
The multi-ply, micro-bouclé structure gives this yarn a natural volume, making it work up quickly while maintaining lightness. For knitting, to achieve a lightweight, airy fabric, use 2.5–3.5 mm (US 1.5–4) needles when knitting three threads (creating a Fingering-weight fabric).

Gauge target: 24–28 stitches per 4 inches (10 cm) in stockinette stitch. Tip: Use the larger end (3.5 mm) for a softer, loftier drape. For crochet, use hooks in the range of 2.5–3.5 mm (C-2 to E-4).

📏 Estimated Yarn Usage for Knitwear
This estimate is based on the yarn's unique voluminous structure and is for garments knit at a relatively open gauge (similar to Sport weight or light DK).

  • Standard Sweater (Size M): 350–450 g (approx. 1120–1440 m / 1225–1575 yd).
  • Long Cardigan/Bomber Jacket: 450–600 g (approx. 1440–1920 m / 1575–2100 yd).
  • Large Shawl / Wrap: 200–300 g (approx. 640–960 m / 700–1050 yd).
  • Scarf or Cowl: 100–150 g (approx. 320–480 m / 350–525 yd).

🧵 Weaving Recommendations
The COMETA yarn is an excellent choice for a designer touch in weaving projects, especially for weft. Highly recommended for weft: the bouclé texture, combined with the shimmer of the Lurex/Shishibriki cocoons, creates an unparalleled texture and visual depth — perfect for scarves, textured pillows, or accent panels in tapestries. For warp, use with a strong, smooth yarn (like a silk/wool blend or cotton) to minimize abrasion and breakage during weaving. Recommended sett (EPI): 8–10 ends per inch for a weft-dominant fabric designed to show off the texture and fluff.

📍 Care Instructions
Hand wash gently in cool water with mild detergent. Do not wring or twist. Lay flat to dry out of direct sunlight. Cone-wound yarns are lightly waxed — wash after knitting to reveal full softness.

🧶 Formats: Balls (BY DEFAULT) or Cones (PLEASE PURCHASE)

📍 FOR FULL-CONE SALES, THERE IS NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE FOR THE CONE. Yarn will remain on its original cone.

📍 FOR YARN THAT IS NOT SOLD AS A FULL CONE BUT IN VARIOUS WOUND WEIGHTS, ALL YARN WILL BE WOUND INTO BALLS BY DEFAULT. CONES ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE YARN PRICE. However, we can wind it onto cones upon request. PLEACE BUY CONES HERE

Unlike other shops where cone costs are often built into the yarn price—regardless of the format—our pricing is transparent. You pay only for the yarn itself. If you’d like your order wound on a cone, it can be purchased separately. This small additional charge also helps cover packaging differences and the actual cost of the cone. No hidden fees, no inflated markups—just honest, straightforward pricing.

📍 Please Note

  • Please keep in mind: cone yarns, especially those made with extra fine merino or cashmere, may include a protective coating used for industrial knitting. A few gentle washes will allow the yarn to bloom, soften, and reveal its natural texture.
  • Colors are photographed in natural light but may appear slightly different depending on your screen.
  • FOR YARN THAT IS CUSTOM-WOUND, ±1–2g variation per 100g may occur due to winding.
  • Each ball/cone is wound with care and packed securely to ensure it reaches you in perfect condition.
