MADE WITH iDOKNiT: A BOURETTE SILK LACE DRESS
One of my favorite things about iDOKNiT is seeing what happens to a yarn after it leaves my shelves. I found this beautiful 100% Bourette Silk in Italy fell in love with its color and wonderful natural texture, and brought it home to California. Then Mila, one of the incredibly talented knitters from our iDOKNiT Telegram community, saw it — and this is where the yarn started a completely different life.
The inspiration came from a beautiful lace stitch she had discovered on Pinterest. There was no pattern for the dress itself; just a stitch she loved, some Italian silk, and an idea of what the two could become together. The result was her very first hand-knitted dress, created in a single strand on 3 mm / US 2.5 needles.
I’ll add the original lace inspiration here once we have it — perhaps it will inspire someone else to create something completely unexpected, too.
And here is the detail that still amazes me: this entire size S / approximately US 4–6 dress took only 235–240 grams of yarn. After washing, it stayed the same size, with no noticeable shrinking or stretching, and it continues to hold its shape during wear. The slightly textured character of Bourette Silk works beautifully with the open lace — light, elegant and somehow perfectly suited to this design.

I am endlessly amazed by the talent and imagination of the women in our community. I can find a beautiful yarn somewhere in Italy, bring it across the ocean and put it on my shelves — but then talented hands take over, and suddenly it isn't yarn anymore. It is something I could never have imagined when I first saw that cone.
