✨ Discover a yarn with character - BABY 20 is an incredibly light and luxurious yarn from Filati BE.MI.VA, Italy, with a versatile blend of 22% Baby Alpaca, 28% Merino Wool, and 50% Nylon 'Comfort'. This unique combination gives the yarn a brushed, fluffy texture and a light, stretchy quality. The high content of fine animal fibers ensures phenomenal warmth and supreme softness, while the Nylon provides crucial structure and elasticity that allows the yarn to be so light yet durable.

📍 ALL PURCHASED YARN IS WOUND INTO BALLS BY DEFAULT. HOWEVER, WE CAN WIND IT ONTO CONES UPON REQUEST. THIS IS LIMITED QUANTITY YARN!

📍 YOU CAN BUY CONES HERE

📍 CONES ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE YARN PRICE.
Unlike other shops where cone costs are often built into the yarn price—regardless of the format—our pricing is transparent. You pay only for the yarn itself. If you’d like your order wound on a cone, it can be purchased separately. This small additional charge also helps cover the shipping cost associated with different packaging sizes and the self-cost of the cone. No hidden fees, no inflated markups—just honest, straightforward pricing.

Texture & Feel
This yarn is exquisitely soft with a gentle halo. Its brushed, fluffy texture ensures excellent loft and a featherlight feel against the skin.

📍 Elasticity & Resilience
The 50% Nylon 'Comfort' component gives this yarn a noticeable stretch and memory. This means the yarn will have excellent resilience, bouncing back after being stretched or compressed. This prevents finished garments from growing or sagging over time, a common concern with pure alpaca or soft merino.

🧶 Working with Elasticity
The bounce and stretch of BABY 20 offer unique advantages, but you should consider a few points when knitting:
• Gauge Swatching: Your washed and dried gauge swatch is essential. The fabric will look open on the needles, but it will bloom and contract after washing, creating a denser fabric.
• Pattern Selection: Choose patterns that benefit from structure or a close fit, like ribbing or cables. These will look crisp and hold their shape beautifully.
• Needle Size: You may find you need to use a slightly LARGER needle size than you typically would for a traditional wool yarn of the same weight to compensate for the tightening that occurs when the fibers bloom after washing. This allows the finished item to retain its intended size.
• Blocking: Be mindful during the blocking process. While the fabric can be shaped, avoid aggressively pinning it out, as its natural elasticity is what makes it resilient.

🧶 A Note for Knitters
Due to its fine nature, this yarn is exceptionally delicate to handle. It is best used with multiple strands, or held together with another yarn, to create a stable fabric. Once washed, the fibers bloom beautifully, increasing the volume and fluffiness to reveal its incredible softness and light weight.

🧶 Recommended Use
This is an exceptionally fine yarn, and it is highly recommended to be knit with at least three threads held together to achieve a stable and durable fabric.
• Fluffy Halo: Excellent for holding alongside a standard yarn (like a smooth merino or silk) to add incredible softness, lightness, and a beautiful halo effect to any project.
• Garments: Ideal for light sweaters and cardigans where maximum warmth with minimal weight is desired.
• Accessories: Perfect for creating ethereal, airy shawls, cowls, and scarves.
• Stitch Patterns: Best for simple stitches like stockinette or garter to let the yarn's luxurious texture and fluffy halo shine.

🧶 Knitting with Multiple Strands
• This yarn is most effectively used when held with other strands to create a working weight.
• 3 Threads: Creates a Fingering weight yarn with an approximate yardage of 667m (729yd) per 100g.
• 4 Threads: Creates a Sport weight yarn with an approximate yardage of 500m (547yd) per 100g.
• 5 Threads: Creates a DK weight yarn with an approximate yardage of 400m (437yd) per 100g.

🧶Recommendations for Weaving
Due to its fine and delicate nature, this yarn is not recommended for warp. However, it is an excellent choice for weft, where it will add an incredibly soft texture and lightweight fluffiness to woven pieces.

🧶 Recommended Needles & Hooks (Used with 3+ Threads)
• Knitting Needles: 2.75–3.75 mm (US 2–5)
- The recommended gauge for knitting with three threads is 23–26 stitches per 4 inches (10 cm) in stockinette stitch.
- Use 2.75mm needles for a more compact fabric.
- Use 3.75mm needles for a softer, more lofty fabric.
• Crochet Hooks: 2.75–3.75 mm (C-2 to F-5)

📏 Estimated Usage (Based on 3-Thread Knit)
• Shawl: 150–200g (1000–1334m / 1094–1458 yd)
• Scarf: 100–150g (667–1000m / 729–1094 yd)

📍 Care Instructions
• Hand wash gently in cool water with a mild detergent
• Do not wring or twist
• Lay flat to dry out of direct sunlight

📍 Please note
Most yarn prepared on cones for machine knitting is lightly waxed to ensure smooth running. Once knit, it should be washed to reveal its true softness. This yarn is perfect for both hand and machine knitting, highly recommended for creating premium-quality knitwear.

• ±1–2g variation per 100g may occur due to the winding process.
• Each ball/cone is wound with care and packed securely to ensure it reaches you in perfect condition.
