A true heritage Latvian wool with a unique origin and exceptional properties—this yarn is a single-ply fingering weight yarn made from 100% Gotland Sheep Wool.
Spun and hand-dyed at Paces Vilnas Fabrika, a historic wool mill in Latvia, this yarn is crafted using traditional methods and vintage equipment that preserve the fiber’s authentic texture and integrity. Each skein reflects the heart of Latvian wool heritage—rich in character, rustic in spirit, and full of natural charm.
This is a pure heritage Gotland wool that possesses a silky touch and excellent softness. It is comfortable for cozy sweaters and accessories. The yarn maintains a gentle hand-feel while delivering exceptional warmth and structure.
The wool is processed using minimal chemical treatment (less than 5% of traditional methods) and is not carbonized. It retains up to 70% of its natural lanolin, making it an organically manufactured yarn that delivers excellent insulation and water resistance. While slightly coarse at first touch, the yarn softens beautifully with each warm wash, developing a gentle bloom and supple hand.
🎨 Color Details & Photography Note
All four colorways are exceptionally complex, making it extremely difficult for a camera to capture the true hue of each color presented. This difficulty is further increased by the melange effect (multiple colors blended within the ply). The actual color descriptions are:
- Beautiful Bordeaux: Dark violet color with a red wine melange.
- Rich Dark Forest Green: With a lighter green melange.
- Dark Jeans: Classic dark denim with a melange effect.
- Purple-Violet: With a distinct blue melange.

🧶 A Note from the Knitter
Dundaga is a true rustic wool that is minimally processed to retain the best qualities of the fiber. It is crucial to wash and block your finished project to fully transform the yarn. The first wash removes residual dirt and sets the final texture, revealing the true softness, elasticity, and stitch definition that this heritage yarn is famous for.
Also, be aware that Dundaga is famous for its unique, artisanal dyeing process. Colors often blend and overlap slightly within the skein, which contributes to the yarn’s watercolor effect and unique striping as you knit. It is highly recommended to buy enough yarn for your entire project as color lots can vary significantly. Finally, due to the minimal processing and retained lanolin, this yarn is prone to felting; please follow the hand-wash instructions precisely to avoid shrinking.
The most wonderful and convenient thing about this yarn is that each color section is very long. This means you don’t need to buy multiple shades or different yarns to achieve a colorful effect. You can simply get a few skeins of this beautiful Dundaga yarn and separate the colors as you wish.
From those colors, you can create striped projects or multicolored designs — especially jacquard patterns that require many shades.
Another great advantage is that you don’t need to make knots when joining ends. Simply overlap one yarn end over the other by about 5–6 cm (2 inches), slightly moisten the area with water, and gently rub between your fingers. The fibers will naturally bind together, allowing you to continue knitting seamlessly.
This way, you don’t have to worry about having many loose ends in your multicolored projects — it’s truly one of the most practical and enjoyable features of Dundaga yarn!
🧶Recommendations for Weaving:
This 100% Gotland Wool yarn is excellent for both warp and weft. Its sticky texture is ideal for warp in medium-to-heavy density fabrics, and its unique drape and luster create sophisticated, cozy textures for items like blankets and wraps.
📏 Gauge Guidance (approximate):
• Needles: 2.5–3.75 mm (US 1.5–5)
