FILCOM VINICUNCA is an exceptionally rare luxury yarn blending precious Vicuña fiber with fine Mulberry silk. Vicuña is often called the “fiber of the gods” and is considered the finest natural fiber in the world — finer than cashmere and softer than baby alpaca.
Unlike sheep, vicuñas cannot be farmed. They live wild in the high Andes mountains and are protected animals. The fiber can only be collected once every three years during the traditional ceremonial gathering called Chaku, where animals are gently released back into the wild after shearing. Each animal produces only a very small amount of usable fiber, so the global supply is extremely limited.
For this reason, pure vicuña garments are among the most valuable textile pieces in the world and often cost thousands of dollars. Yarns containing real vicuña are rarely available for hand knitting and are typically reserved for couture weaving and luxury mills.
FILCOM produces small-batch Italian luxury yarns and occasionally releases rare experimental blends using fibers normally unavailable to knitters. VINICUNCA is one of those exceptional productions.
The yarn is softly carded and intentionally slightly uneven — a natural interaction between airy vicuña down and smooth mulberry silk filament. This irregularity is the defining beauty of the yarn, creating a living surface with depth and organic elegance rather than a flat machine-perfect thread.
Mulberry silk stabilizes the delicate vicuña fibers, adds durability and a refined sheen while preserving the warmth, breathability and extraordinary softness of the fiber. After washing, the fibers relax and bloom, producing a soft halo while remaining incredibly light.

⚑ FOR FULL-CONE SALES, THERE IS NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE FOR THE CONE. Yarn will remain on its original cone.
⚑ FOR YARN THAT IS NOT SOLD AS A FULL CONE BUT IN VARIOUS WOUND WEIGHTS, ALL YARN WILL BE WOUND INTO BALLS BY DEFAULT. CONES ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE YARN PRICE. However, we can wind it onto cones upon request. Cones may be purchased separately if you prefer continuous yardage for machine knitting or multi-strand projects. One color is typically wound per cone to maintain consistency.
PLEACE BUY CONES HERE
Unlike other shops where cone costs are often built into the yarn price—regardless of the format—our pricing is transparent. You pay only for the yarn itself. If you’d like your order wound on a cone, it can be purchased separately. This small additional charge also helps cover packaging differences and the actual cost of the cone. No hidden fees, no inflated markups—just honest, straightforward pricing.
Please Note
Please Note
- Please keep in mind: cone yarns, especially those made with extra fine merino or cashmere, may include a protective coating used for industrial knitting. A few gentle washes will allow the yarn to bloom, soften, and reveal its natural texture.
- Colors are photographed in natural light but may appear slightly different depending on your screen.
- FOR YARN THAT IS CUSTOM-WOUND, ±1–2g variation per 100g may occur due to winding.
- Each ball/cone is wound with care and packed securely to ensure it reaches you in perfect condition.
