DAKOTA is a refined Italian 100% cotton yarn created by PRISMA RICERCHE and IAFIL SPA for makers who want soft cotton, beautiful stitch definition, breathable comfort, and clean professional-looking fabric. With approximately 625 meters per 100 g, this lace/light fingering yarn is excellent for knitting, crochet, weaving, machine knitting, summer garments, baby items, accessories, and lightweight everyday pieces.

This yarn is not a cable yarn. Based on the photos, DAKOTA appears to be a fine, smooth, tightly twisted cotton yarn with a clean multi-ply structure. It has a polished surface, good stability, and very nice softness for cotton — approximately 9 out of 10. The result is a cotton yarn that feels comfortable and practical while still giving your projects a refined Italian finish.

Unlike many cotton yarns that feel stiff or dry, DAKOTA has a softer touch while keeping the structure cotton is loved for. It creates breathable, durable fabric with crisp stitch definition, making it especially useful for summer tops, crochet garments, baby pieces, shawls, scarves, and machine knitting.

⚑ Why This Yarn Is Special
DAKOTA is valuable because it gives you the practicality of 100% cotton with a much softer and more refined feel than many standard cotton yarns. The fine twisted structure helps create even stitches, clean fabric, and better stability in finished projects.

This yarn is especially attractive for buyers who want cotton that is breathable and durable, but still soft enough for garments and baby items. It works beautifully in warm-weather pieces, crochet garments, lightweight knitwear, and machine knitting.

The high meterage also makes it very versatile: use it single strand for fine lightweight fabric, or hold it double for a fuller sport/DK feel.

FOR FULL-CONE SALES, THERE IS NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE FOR THE CONE. Yarn will remain on its original cone.

FOR YARN THAT IS NOT SOLD AS A FULL CONE BUT IN VARIOUS WOUND WEIGHTS, ALL YARN WILL BE WOUND INTO BALLS BY DEFAULT. CONES ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE YARN PRICE. However, we can wind it onto cones upon request. Cones may be purchased separately if you prefer continuous yardage for machine knitting or multi-strand projects. One color is typically wound per cone to maintain consistency.

PLEASE BUY CONES HERE

Unlike other shops where cone costs are often built into the yarn price—regardless of the format—our pricing is transparent. You pay only for the yarn itself. If you’d like your order wound on a cone, it can be purchased separately. This small additional charge also helps cover packaging differences and the actual cost of the cone. No hidden fees, no inflated markups—just honest, straightforward pricing.

Please Note

  • Please keep in mind: cone yarns, especially those made with extra fine merino or cashmere, may include a protective coating used for industrial knitting. A few gentle washes will allow the yarn to bloom, soften, and reveal its natural texture.
  • Colors are photographed in natural light but may appear slightly different depending on your screen.
  • FOR YARN THAT IS CUSTOM-WOUND, ±1–2g variation per 100g may occur due to winding.
  • Each ball/cone is wound with care and packed securely to ensure it reaches you in perfect condition.
