➤ My First Impressions
The first thing that impressed me about DOROTHY was its remarkable softness. Even on the cone, the yarn feels silky, smooth, and refined, with the unmistakable luxury that comes from adding Cashmere to premium Merino Wool.
Although this is a true lace-weight yarn, it doesn't feel fragile. The strand has enough elasticity to knit comfortably while maintaining an elegant, lightweight character. The combination of Merino and Cashmere creates a yarn that feels airy yet warm, making it perfect for garments worn directly against the skin.
Because of its extra-fine meterage, I recommend using multiple strands for hand knitting. Five or six strands produce a beautiful fabric with excellent stitch definition, while fewer strands are ideal for machine knitting or delicate lace projects. One of the greatest advantages of DOROTHY is the ability to customize your fabric simply by adjusting the number of strands.
I also see tremendous potential as a companion yarn. Held together with linen, silk, cotton, mohair, or alpaca, DOROTHY adds remarkable softness, warmth, and elegant drape without overwhelming the character of the main yarn.
✦ Texture & Feel:
Exceptionally soft, smooth, and lightweight with the refined elegance of Cashmere and the natural resilience of premium Merino Wool. The fabric has beautiful drape, outstanding stitch definition, and remarkable next-to-skin comfort.
After washing, the yarn relaxes beautifully, becoming even softer while maintaining its natural elasticity and elegant appearance.
If you appreciate understated luxury and timeless natural fibers, DOROTHY creates fabrics that are both elegant and incredibly comfortable.
➤ Recommended Uses:
Perfect for lightweight sweaters, elegant cardigans, lace shawls, scarves, wraps, baby garments, children's knitwear, layering pieces, luxury accessories, machine knitting, and companion-yarn projects.
✧ Tips & Recommendations:
Because of its extra-fine meterage, DOROTHY performs best when knitted with multiple strands.
• Machine Knitting: Approximately 3–4 strands
• Hand Knitting: Approximately 5–6 strands
• Excellent companion yarn for silk, linen, cotton, mohair, alpaca, and other luxury fibers
• Always knit and wash a swatch before beginning your project.
➤ Recommended Needles/Hooks:
• Machine Knitting (3–4 strands): Fine-gauge machines
• Hand Knitting (5–6 strands): US 5–7 (3.75–4.5 mm)
• Knitting Needles (3–4 strands): US 2–4 (2.75–3.5 mm)
• Crochet Hooks: Approximately 2.25–3.5 mm
• Always make a washed swatch before beginning your project.
➤ Weaving Suitability:
Excellent as a luxurious weft yarn. DOROTHY introduces exceptional softness and warmth into lightweight woven scarves, shawls, wraps, and apparel fabrics. Because of its delicate construction, it is generally better suited for weft than warp.
⋔ Recommended Yarn Usage:
Approximate requirements when knitted with approximately five to six strands:
• Shawl or Wrap: 100–150g
• Sweater (M): 200–300g
• Lightweight Cardigan: 250–350g
• Hat: 50–75g
• Scarf: 80–120g
• Baby Sweater: 80–120g
Actual yarn requirements will vary depending on garment size, gauge, stitch pattern, strand count, and desired fabric density.
➤ Recommended Pairings From iDOKNiT:

PLEASE BUY CONES HERE
Unlike other shops where cone costs are often built into the yarn price—regardless of the format—our pricing is transparent. You pay only for the yarn itself. If you’d like your order wound on a cone, it can be purchased separately. This small additional charge also helps cover packaging differences and the actual cost of the cone. No hidden fees, no inflated markups—just honest, straightforward pricing.
Please Note
Please Note
- Please keep in mind: cone yarns, especially those made with extra fine merino or cashmere, may include a protective coating used for industrial knitting. A few gentle washes will allow the yarn to bloom, soften, and reveal its natural texture.
- Colors are photographed in natural light but may appear slightly different depending on your screen.
- FOR YARN THAT IS CUSTOM-WOUND, ±1–2g variation per 100g may occur due to winding.
- Each ball/cone is wound with care and packed securely to ensure it reaches you in perfect condition.
