LAUREA by Cariaggi is an exceptionally rare couture-level Italian yarn made from 70% real Vicuña and 30% Silk, with approximately 3000 meters per 100 g. This is not ordinary luxury yarn — this is one of the rarest and most exclusive fibers in the world, produced by one of the most prestigious Italian luxury mills for elite fashion and textile manufacturing.

Vicuña is often called “The Fiber of the Gods” and is considered one of the rarest and finest animal fibers on Earth. Cariaggi’s own research describes vicuña as one of the world’s finest fibers, measuring as little as 12 microns. An adult vicuña produces only a tiny amount of fiber, and the animals are protected and carefully managed under strict government control in the Andes mountains.

Cariaggi specifically developed LAUREA as part of its ultra-luxury vicuña program — a couture-grade 70% vicuña / 30% silk combed yarn in Nm 2/60.

This yarn is almost never available to hand knitters. Fibers of this level are normally reserved for the highest-end Italian fashion houses, luxury weaving, and collector-level textile production.

The silk stabilizes the extraordinary softness of vicuña while adding fluidity, strength, luminosity, and elegant drape. The result is an incredibly light, refined, and sophisticated yarn with a living softness that feels almost unreal in the hand.

⚑ Why This Yarn Is Special
LAUREA is not simply expensive yarn — it belongs to an entirely different category of luxury textile production.

Cariaggi developed this yarn specifically as part of its ultra-fine vicuña collection alongside other rare vicuña constructions created for elite luxury manufacturing.

Real vicuña fiber is extraordinarily limited. According to Cariaggi and industry references:
• vicuña fiber measures around 12 microns
• each animal produces only a very small amount of usable fiber
• animals are shorn infrequently under controlled protection programs
• global fiber availability is extremely limited

The addition of silk transforms the yarn even further:
• improves strength and stability
• preserves lightness
• adds elegant fluidity and sheen
• creates a more durable couture textile structure

This yarn is especially appealing to:
• luxury knitwear collectors
• couture textile artists
• heirloom knitters
• luxury weaving studios
• fashion designers
• fiber connoisseurs who understand true rare fibers

This is the type of yarn most people will never touch in their lifetime.

✧ Fiber Profile
• Vicuña — one of the rarest and finest luxury fibers in the world
• Silk — luminosity, drape, strength, and refinement
• Combined blend — weightless warmth with extraordinary elegance and softness

The fine Mulberry Silk stabilizes the delicate vicuña fibers while adding fluidity, strength, subtle luminosity, and couture-level drape.

➤ Recommended Pairings From iDOKNiT
Honestly, this is one of the very few yarns I would personally prefer to use alone.

However, for advanced textile experimentation:
• Fine silk — enhances fluidity and luminosity

• Fine merino — adds structure for more wearable fabrics

✦ Recommended Needles / Hooks
• Extremely dependent on strand count and desired fabric

Formats: WHOLE CONE Sale

FOR FULL-CONE SALES, THERE IS NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE FOR THE CONE. Yarn will remain on its original cone.

Please Note

  • Please keep in mind: cone yarns, especially those made with extra fine merino or cashmere, may include a protective coating used for industrial knitting. A few gentle washes will allow the yarn to bloom, soften, and reveal its natural texture.
  • Colors are photographed in natural light but may appear slightly different depending on your screen.
  • FOR YARN THAT IS CUSTOM-WOUND, ±1–2g variation per 100g may occur due to winding.
  • Each ball/cone is wound with care and packed securely to ensure it reaches you in perfect condition.

Shipping & Order Processing

Orders are prepared in the order received and typically ship within 3–5 business days. Custom requests such as cone winding may require additional time. Multiple orders placed before shipment may be combined. Shipping refunds are not issued for combined orders.

We ship worldwide with tracking provided. As customs policies and tariffs can change frequently, any duties, taxes, or import fees are the sole responsibility of the buyer. These charges are not collected by us at the time of purchase but are typically paid to your local postal service or customs office upon the arrival of your package.
