BOREALE by Sesia Manifatture is a luxury Italian Baby Suri Alpaca sequin yarn with a soft halo, silky hand-feel, and elegant holographic sparkle. The tiny 1–2 mm sequins are integrated into the yarn structure, creating refined light reflection without feeling scratchy or overwhelming. This yarn is ideal for knitters who want soft, drapey, fashion-inspired fabric with texture, movement, and a touch of shine.
At approximately 290m per 100g, BOREALE works beautifully as a single-strand yarn. My sample was knitted on US 8 (5.0 mm) needles and the fabric was easy to knit, soft, silky, and very pleasant to touch. After washing, the swatch became even softer, the halo opened beautifully, and the drape improved. Use it alone for elegant sweaters, cardigans, shawls, and evening knitwear, or hold it with smooth luxury yarns when you want extra warmth, depth, and couture-style texture.

⚑ Why This Yarn Is Special
Many sequin yarns focus on sparkle but sacrifice softness. Many alpaca yarns focus on softness but lack visual excitement. BOREALE successfully combines both.
The tiny holographic sequins are integrated directly into the yarn structure and create subtle light reflections throughout the fabric. Instead of looking overly decorative, the finished fabric feels refined, elegant, and expensive.
The Baby Suri Alpaca creates a beautiful halo and luxurious texture while maintaining excellent softness. The result is a yarn that works equally well for sophisticated sweaters, elegant shawls, evening garments, and statement accessories.
✦ My Knitting Experience With BOREALE
I knitted my sample using a single strand on US 8 (5.0 mm) needles in single strand and absolutely loved working with this yarn. It was easy and pleasant to knit, the stitches formed beautifully, and the fabric developed a wonderful combination of softness, drape, texture, and subtle sparkle.
One thing that surprised me was how silky this yarn feels. The Baby Suri Alpaca halo adds softness and warmth, but the overall fabric has a smooth, almost silky hand that feels wonderful against the skin. The sequins are fully integrated into the yarn and were not itchy at all while knitting or wearing the swatch.
After washing, the sample became even softer and developed a more pronounced halo. The fabric relaxed beautifully, the drape improved, and the yarn felt even more luxurious. The finished swatch has a lovely balance of softness, warmth, texture, and elegant sparkle.
Personally, I think BOREALE is exceptional when used in a single strand. It already creates a beautiful fabric with excellent drape, texture, and visual interest. I would only consider holding multiple strands together if I specifically wanted a very warm garment. Otherwise, one strand provides plenty of character and allows the halo and sequins to remain the stars of the fabric.
BOREALE also works beautifully as a companion yarn when you want to add softness, halo, texture, and subtle sparkle to another yarn.

PLEASE BUY CONES HERE
Unlike other shops where cone costs are often built into the yarn price—regardless of the format—our pricing is transparent. You pay only for the yarn itself. If you’d like your order wound on a cone, it can be purchased separately. This small additional charge also helps cover packaging differences and the actual cost of the cone. No hidden fees, no inflated markups—just honest, straightforward pricing.
Please Note
Please Note
- Please keep in mind: cone yarns, especially those made with extra fine merino or cashmere, may include a protective coating used for industrial knitting. A few gentle washes will allow the yarn to bloom, soften, and reveal its natural texture.
- Colors are photographed in natural light but may appear slightly different depending on your screen.
- FOR YARN THAT IS CUSTOM-WOUND, ±1–2g variation per 100g may occur due to winding.
- Each ball/cone is wound with care and packed securely to ensure it reaches you in perfect condition.
