BABY15 is a fine-spun micro-bouclé composed of 79% Baby Alpaca supported by a тонкий polyamide core. The strand forms tiny airy loops that create natural volume and softness without weight. The alpaca provides warmth and a gentle halo, while the core thread stabilizes the structure and improves durability.

This yarn does not behave like a smooth lace yarn — after washing the fabric relaxes, expands and becomes fuller. Because of the extreme fineness, it is intended to be worked in multiple strands or carried with another yarn to control transparency and structure.

▣ Product Specifications
• Manufacturer: POLIPELI S.P.A., Italy
• Article: BABY15
• Fiber Content: 79% Baby Alpaca, 21% Polyamide
• Yarn Category: Lace / Micro-Bouclé
• Yarn Count: Nm 14500
• Yardage: 1450 m / 100 g (≈ 1585 yd / 3.52 oz)
• Formats: Balls (BY DEFAULT) or Cones (PLEASE PURCHASE)
• Origin: Made in Italy

▣ Texture & Feel
• Airy loop texture rather than smooth surface
• Warm but breathable
• Fabric blooms and gains body after washing
• Stitch definition is softened by the boucle surface
• Complex stitch patterns become visually muted
• Repeated frogging may catch the loops

▣ Recommended Uses
• Soft sweaters and cardigans with natural volume
• Lightweight layering garments
• Scarves and cowls
• Held with merino for stability
• Held with silk for drape
• Held with mohair for deeper halo

▣ Recommended Needles & Strand Pairing
Single strand — not recommended for garments (too transparent and unstable). The recommended starting point for knitting this yarn is using four strands with US size 3-4 (3.25-3.5mm) needles, depending on your pattern and design. For my sample, I used four strands with US size 4 needles.

2 strands — sheer lightweight fabric
Needles approx. 2.5–3.0 mm

3 strands — comfortable wearable thickness
Needles approx. 3.0–3.5 mm

4 strands — everyday sweater fabric
Needles approx. 3.5–4.0 mm

5–6 strands — soft DK thickness
Needles approx. 4.0–4.5 mm

Swatching and washing are required — the fabric changes noticeably after finishing.

▣ Weaving Recommendations
Works best as weft to introduce soft texture.
For warp use a stronger stable yarn (merino or cotton).
Wet finishing reveals final fullness and softness.

▣ Estimated Yarn Usage
(when held 3–4 strands)

• Sweater S–M: 300–400 g
• Sweater L–XL: 400–550 g
• Cardigan: 350–500 g
• Scarf: 120–180 g
• Shawl: 150–250 g

▣ Care Instructions
• Hand wash cold
• Do not rub or wring
• Press water gently in towel
• Lay flat to dry
• Fabric blooms after first wash

⚑ Why You’ll Love It
A lightweight yarn that creates warmth and volume without heaviness — the texture itself becomes the design.

Formats: Balls (BY DEFAULT) or Cones (PLEASE PURCHASE)

FOR FULL-CONE SALES, THERE IS NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE FOR THE CONE. Yarn will remain on its original cone.

FOR YARN THAT IS NOT SOLD AS A FULL CONE BUT IN VARIOUS WOUND WEIGHTS, ALL YARN WILL BE WOUND INTO BALLS BY DEFAULT. CONES ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE YARN PRICE. However, we can wind it onto cones upon request. Cones may be purchased separately if you prefer continuous yardage for machine knitting or multi-strand projects. One color is typically wound per cone to maintain consistency.

PLEACE BUY CONES HERE

Unlike other shops where cone costs are often built into the yarn price—regardless of the format—our pricing is transparent. You pay only for the yarn itself. If you’d like your order wound on a cone, it can be purchased separately. This small additional charge also helps cover packaging differences and the actual cost of the cone. No hidden fees, no inflated markups—just honest, straightforward pricing.

Please Note

  • Please keep in mind: cone yarns, especially those made with extra fine merino or cashmere, may include a protective coating used for industrial knitting. A few gentle washes will allow the yarn to bloom, soften, and reveal its natural texture.
  • Colors are photographed in natural light but may appear slightly different depending on your screen.
  • FOR YARN THAT IS CUSTOM-WOUND, ±1–2g variation per 100g may occur due to winding.
  • Each ball/cone is wound with care and packed securely to ensure it reaches you in perfect condition.

Shipping & Order Processing

Orders are prepared in the order received and typically ship within 3–5 business days. Custom requests such as cone winding may require additional time. Multiple orders placed before shipment may be combined. Shipping refunds are not issued for combined orders.

We ship worldwide with tracking provided. As customs policies and tariffs can change frequently, any duties, taxes, or import fees are the sole responsibility of the buyer. These charges are not collected by us at the time of purchase but are typically paid to your local postal service or customs office upon the arrival of your package.
