SAIA by Lineapiù is an Italian novelty cotton blend yarn made from 77% cotton and 23% polyamide, with approximately 210 meters per 100 g. This is a textured, fashion-oriented yarn designed to create airy, dimensional fabrics with a very distinctive character. It belongs to the same family of yarns often used in high-end Italian summer collections.
This yarn has a signature flake or “bow” structure that gives the fabric movement, lightness, and a soft irregular texture. It is not a flat yarn — it naturally creates volume and visual interest even in the simplest stitches. I highly recommend zooming in on the photos to clearly see this structure — it is what makes the yarn special.

⚑ Why This Yarn Is Special
This is a true Italian novelty yarn — the kind you typically see in fashion yarn collections rather than standard yarn lines. The flake (“bow”) structure creates a fabric that already looks designed, even with very simple stitches.
It gives your project a finished, dimensional look without requiring complex techniques. This is exactly the type of yarn used to create modern textured garments with a relaxed but elevated feel.
✧ Fiber Profile
• Cotton: breathable, natural, comfortable
• Polyamide: stabilizes the structure and adds durability
• Blend: lightweight, flexible, ideal for textured fabrics
➤ IMPORTANT — Yarn Usage
I knitted my sample using US size 8 (5 mm) needles. After washing, the yarn didn’t really change in softness, but the fabric became much more interesting — the texture opened up and the overall look improved.
To me, this yarn works especially well for summer compositions, but it can also be beautifully combined with other yarns, even fluffy ones. When you do that, it creates a very nice Chanel-like effect — textured, dimensional, and modern.
I see this yarn as a great base. It helps build volume in the fabric without adding extra weight, which is really valuable when you want structure but still want to keep garments light.
I didn’t notice any color bleeding after washing — the yarn stayed stable.
Depending on your design, I would start with US size 6 needles or larger — this yarn really benefits from space to open up and show its structure.
⋔ Recommended Yarn Usage (Projects)
• Summer sweaters and tops
• Lightweight cardigans
• Textured fashion garments
• Statement scarves and accessories
• Simple silhouettes where texture is the focus
➤ IMPORTANT — Yarn Usage
I knitted my sample using US size 8 (5 mm) needles. In my opinion, this needle size works beautifully if you want a more open, slightly see-through fabric — something light that can be worn as a second layer over a top, dress, or simple base garment.
For a more wearable everyday fabric with a little more structure, I would recommend starting with US size 6 needles and adjusting from there depending on your design.
This is a very interesting character yarn — easy to knit, soft, and completely different from regular smooth yarns. It creates a special mood in the fabric and gives even simple knitting a designer look. With this yarn, you can create a piece that feels truly unique — something nobody else has.
It is also a wonderful choice if you want to create an à la Brunello Cucinelli or Chanel-inspired textured piece: airy, dimensional, modern, and elegant without needing complicated stitch work.
➤ Approximate Yarn Usage
• Sweater (S–M): ~400–500 g (840–1050 m)
• Sweater (L–XL): ~500–650 g (1050–1360 m)
• Cardigan: ~450–650 g depending on length
• Top / T-shirt: ~250–350 g
• Scarf: ~150–250 g
• Shawl: ~200–350 g
(Actual usage depends on stitch pattern and desired openness — this yarn can be knit more open or more structured.)
➤ Recommended Pairings From iDOKNiT
• Combine with smooth cotton or silk for contrast
• Pair with viscose or linen for summer blends
• Use with fluffy yarns to create Chanel-style texture
• Excellent as a base yarn in mixed-texture garments
✦ Recommended Needles / Hooks
• Needles: US 6–8 depending on design
• Hooks: approx. 4–5 mm
• Larger needles allow the texture to open more beautifully
⫯ Weaving Suitability
• Suitable for decorative weaving
• Best used as a texture element
⟳ Care Instructions
• Hand wash recommended
• Lay flat to dry
• Do not tumble dry
• Handle gently to preserve structure

Unlike other shops where cone costs are often built into the yarn price—regardless of the format—our pricing is transparent. You pay only for the yarn itself. If you’d like your order wound on a cone, it can be purchased separately. This small additional charge also helps cover packaging differences and the actual cost of the cone. No hidden fees, no inflated markups—just honest, straightforward pricing.
Please Note
Please Note
- Please keep in mind: cone yarns, especially those made with extra fine merino or cashmere, may include a protective coating used for industrial knitting. A few gentle washes will allow the yarn to bloom, soften, and reveal its natural texture.
- Colors are photographed in natural light but may appear slightly different depending on your screen.
- FOR YARN THAT IS CUSTOM-WOUND, ±1–2g variation per 100g may occur due to winding.
- Each ball/cone is wound with care and packed securely to ensure it reaches you in perfect condition.
