SATO SENI MOCCIMEN is an exceptional Japanese luxury lace-weight stretch yarn engineered primarily from premium Cotton with built-in Elastane. Boasting an incredibly generous 1000 meters (1094 yards) per 100g, this remarkably fine yarn combines highly breathable summer comfort, gentle elasticity, crisp stitch definition, and unmatched shape retention. Its smooth, technical cord construction creates featherlight knitted and woven fabrics with a clean, minimalist appearance while providing outstanding flexibility.
What makes MOCCIMEN truly special is its innovative combination of high-grade cotton and structural stretch. Unlike traditional cotton yarns that can gradually sag, stretch out, or lose their memory during wear, MOCCIMEN offers a resilient, snappy elasticity that allows finished garments to move naturally with the body while instantly recovering their original shape. The smooth multi-ply cord structure yields beautifully crisp stitch definition and excellent durability, making it perfect for everyday luxury staples and modern designer silhouettes alike.
Despite its extra-fine meterage, MOCCIMEN is intended to be combined in two or more strands for hand knitting. Held double, it creates a lightweight yet beautifully structured fabric with responsive elasticity and excellent recovery.
Rare Japanese mill-stock yarns like MOCCIMEN are originally produced exclusively for commercial luxury fashion manufacturers and are seldom available to the public. Once these limited mill lots are gone, they cannot be reproduced or reordered, making each cone a unique opportunity to work with authentic Japanese textile engineering.

⚑ Why This Yarn Is Special
MOSCIMEN combines the comfort and breathability of premium Cotton with the practical benefits of gentle elasticity. Unlike ordinary cotton yarns that may gradually lose their shape, this innovative Japanese construction creates fabrics that remain comfortable, flexible, and beautifully structured throughout years of wear.
Its exceptionally fine meterage allows knitters to create lightweight garments with excellent stitch definition while maintaining remarkable comfort and recovery. Whether knitted alone or combined with other luxury yarns, MOSCIMEN enhances fabrics with subtle elasticity, improved fit, and lasting shape retention.
Produced by SATO SENI Co., Ltd., one of Japan's most respected luxury spinning mills, this genuine mill-stock yarn represents the exceptional quality and innovation for which Japanese textile engineering is internationally recognized.
➤ Important Note About the Colors
I highly recommend using the zoom feature on every color photo. The close-up images reveal the beautiful smooth cord construction, exceptional spinning quality, and refined texture that are difficult to appreciate in standard photographs.
➤ IMPORTANT — Yarn Usage
• This is an exceptionally fine yarn at approximately 1000m per 100g and is not recommended as a single strand for ordinary hand-knitted garments.
• For hand knitting, I recommend beginning with two strands held together, creating an effective combined meterage of approximately 500m per 100g.
• Three or more strands may be combined for a thicker, more structured fabric.
• A single strand is better suited to fine machine knitting, weaving, delicate crochet, or use as an elastic companion thread.
• Two strands are ideal for lightweight sweaters, fitted tops, knitted T-shirts, cardigans, ribbed garments, dresses, skirts, and other projects that benefit from gentle elasticity and shape recovery.
• Particularly suitable for stockinette, ribbing, structured textures, fitted silhouettes, and clean minimalist designs.
• Beautiful held together with Cotton, Linen, Silk, Fine Merino, Cashmere, or other yarns when subtle elasticity and improved shape retention are desired.
⋔ Recommended Yarn Usage
The following estimates assume the yarn is knitted primarily with two strands held together.
• Scarf or narrow wrap: Approximately 120–200g
• Shawl or larger wrap: Approximately 180–300g
• Sleeveless top or tank: Approximately 250–350g
• Short-sleeve top or knitted T-shirt: Approximately 300–450g
• Lightweight sweater (S–M): Approximately 400–550g
• Sweater (L–XL): Approximately 550–750g
• Cardigan or lightweight jacket: Approximately 600–850g
• Knit dress or long cardigan: Approximately 750–1100g
Actual requirements depend on size, garment length, stitch pattern, gauge, and number of strands used.
➤ Recommended Pairings From iDOKNiT
• Fine Cotton — enhances softness while maintaining breathability.
• Linen — creates beautiful summer fabrics with added structure.
• Silk — adds graceful drape and elegant natural sheen.
• Cashmere — increases softness and luxurious comfort.
• Fine Merino — improves elasticity and year-round versatility.
• Kid Mohair — creates an airy halo while preserving flexibility.
✦ Recommended Needles / Hooks
• Two Strands Held Together: 2.5–3.5 mm (US 1½–4) knitting needles
• Three Strands Held Together: 3.25–4.5 mm (US 3–7) knitting needles
• Four Strands Held Together: 4.0–5.5 mm (US 6–9) knitting needles, depending on the desired fabric
• Crochet, Two Strands Held Together: 2.5–3.5 mm (US C/2–E/4)
• Single Strand: Recommended mainly for fine machine knitting, weaving, delicate crochet, or use as a companion yarn—not for standard hand-knitted garments.
• Swatching and washing the swatch are essential because the elastane content may affect gauge, recovery, and the final dimensions of the fabric.
⫯ Weaving Suitability
An exceptional structural yarn for contemporary handweavers creating lightweight scarves, breathable apparel fabrics, summer shawls, and refined home textiles. The sleek cord structure behaves beautifully on the loom, providing excellent structural integrity, smooth handling under tension, and subtle stretch recovery to the finished cloth.
⟳ Care Instructions
Hand wash or machine wash on a dedicated gentle/delicate cycle using cool water and a mild, neutral detergent. Do not bleach. Gently reshape the garment while damp and lay flat to dry away from direct sunlight. Always store your finished items folded rather than hanging on hangers to preserve their shape. Always wash and dry your gauge swatch before starting your project to accurately calculate stitch contraction.

Unlike other shops where cone costs are often built into the yarn price—regardless of the format—our pricing is transparent. You pay only for the yarn itself. If you’d like your order wound on a cone, it can be purchased separately. This small additional charge also helps cover packaging differences and the actual cost of the cone. No hidden fees, no inflated markups—just honest, straightforward pricing.
Please Note
Please Note
- Please keep in mind: cone yarns, especially those made with extra fine merino or cashmere, may include a protective coating used for industrial knitting. A few gentle washes will allow the yarn to bloom, soften, and reveal its natural texture.
- Colors are photographed in natural light but may appear slightly different depending on your screen.
- FOR YARN THAT IS CUSTOM-WOUND, ±1–2g variation per 100g may occur due to winding.
- Each ball/cone is wound with care and packed securely to ensure it reaches you in perfect condition.
