CATENA RIBE is an exceptionally soft and lightweight Italian yarn manufactured by Di.Ve in Italy, created from a refined blend of superfine alpaca and polyamide in a beautiful chainette construction. This airy structure gives the yarn a puffy, light appearance and a wonderfully soft hand, resulting in knitwear that feels warm, elegant, and almost weightless.

Because this yarn is made in a chainette / catenella structure, it has more volume and softness than a standard spun yarn of the same weight. The strand looks very puffy and very light, which makes CATENA RIBE especially attractive for sweaters, cardigans, scarves, hats, and other knitwear where warmth, softness, and a cloud-like look matter. Di.Vè’s official description emphasizes exactly this exceptional softness and lightness.

⚑ Why This Yarn Is Special
CATENA RIBE offers the rare balance of softness, lightness, and volume. The superfine alpaca brings warmth, softness, and a luxurious airy hand, while the polyamide helps support the structure and durability of the yarn. The chainette construction makes the strand feel fuller and lighter than a classic spun yarn, which gives finished pieces a soft, lofty, and elegant character. This matches Di.Vè’s own public description of the yarn as a superfine alpaca chainette of exceptional softness and lightness.

⌁ Texture & Feel
• Very soft and very light
• Puffy, airy strand structure
• Warm without heaviness
• Soft halo and elegant volume
• Comfortable and cozy in fabric
• Lighter and loftier than many standard alpaca yarns

✧ Fiber Profile — Superfine Alpaca Chainette
This blend combines the softness of superfine alpaca with the practical support of polyamide.

Superfine alpaca adds:
• Softness
• Warmth
• Light luxury
• A gentle airy halo

Polyamide adds:
• Support and resilience
• Better durability
• Stability in the chainette structure

Together, they create a yarn that feels soft, puffy, and elegant while remaining practical enough for everyday knitwear. Public Di.Vè information places this yarn in its alpaca category and lists it as a chainette/catenella article with this exact fiber blend.

➤ IMPORTANT — Yarn Usage
• Single-strand hand knitting: very suitable
• This yarn performs beautifully in a single strand
• A wonderful choice for soft, airy garments and accessories
• Ideal for projects where you want warmth, lightness, and visible volume

⋔ Recommended Yarn Usage
• Hats and beanies: approx. 100 g
• Scarves and cowls: approx. 120–200 g
• Shawls and wraps: approx. 150–250 g
• Sweaters and pullovers: approx. 300–450 g
• Cardigans: approx. 350–500 g

➤ Gauge Examples (Approximate)

Always knit and wash a swatch before starting the final project.

➤ Recommended Pairings From iDOKNiT
CATENA RIBE is beautiful on its own, but it can also pair very well with other fine yarns when you want to create different textures and fabric moods.

Fine Silk Yarns
Enhance elegance and add a more fluid drape.

Mohair on Silk
Adds even more halo and atmosphere for especially airy garments.

Fine Merino
Adds structure and a more balanced everyday fabric.

Cashmere
Creates an even softer, warmer, more luxurious result.

These combinations make CATENA RIBE especially appealing to makers who enjoy building fabrics with softness, warmth, and visual depth.

➤ Recommended Needles / Hooks
• Single strand usually works beautifully
• Needle and hook size can be adjusted depending on how open or dense you want the fabric
• Swatching is recommended to find the best balance of loft, softness, and structure

➤ Weaving Suitability
• Better suited to knitting and crochet than to traditional weaving
• Most attractive when the puffy chainette structure can stay visible
• Best for soft fabrics where warmth and airy volume are important

⟳ Care Instructions
• Hand wash gently in cold water with mild wool detergent
• Do not wring or twist
• Lay flat to dry
• Wash swatch before final sizing calculations

Formats: Balls (BY DEFAULT) or Cones (PLEASE PURCHASE)

FOR FULL-CONE SALES, THERE IS NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE FOR THE CONE. Yarn will remain on its original cone.

FOR YARN THAT IS NOT SOLD AS A FULL CONE BUT IN VARIOUS WOUND WEIGHTS, ALL YARN WILL BE WOUND INTO BALLS BY DEFAULT. CONES ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE YARN PRICE. However, we can wind it onto cones upon request. Cones may be purchased separately if you prefer continuous yardage for machine knitting or multi-strand projects. One color is typically wound per cone to maintain consistency.

PLEASE BUY CONES HERE

Unlike other shops where cone costs are often built into the yarn price—regardless of the format—our pricing is transparent. You pay only for the yarn itself. If you’d like your order wound on a cone, it can be purchased separately. This small additional charge also helps cover packaging differences and the actual cost of the cone. No hidden fees, no inflated markups—just honest, straightforward pricing.

Please Note

  • Please keep in mind: cone yarns, especially those made with extra fine merino or cashmere, may include a protective coating used for industrial knitting. A few gentle washes will allow the yarn to bloom, soften, and reveal its natural texture.
  • Colors are photographed in natural light but may appear slightly different depending on your screen.
  • FOR YARN THAT IS CUSTOM-WOUND, ±1–2g variation per 100g may occur due to winding.
  • Each ball/cone is wound with care and packed securely to ensure it reaches you in perfect condition.
