FILCOM VINICUNCA is an exceptionally rare luxury Italian lace yarn made from 20% Vicuña and 80% Mulberry Silk, with approximately 700 meters per 100 g. This extraordinary yarn blends precious vicuña fiber with fine mulberry silk, creating a feather-light, warm, breathable, and deeply refined yarn for luxury knitwear, heirloom accessories, weaving, and rare-fiber textile projects.
Vicuña is often called the “fiber of the gods” and is considered one of the finest natural fibers in the world — finer than cashmere and softer than baby alpaca. Unlike sheep, vicuñas cannot be farmed. They live wild in the high Andes mountains and are protected animals. The fiber can only be collected during the traditional ceremonial gathering called Chaku, where the animals are gently released back into the wild after shearing. Each animal produces only a very small amount of usable fiber, making the global supply extremely limited.
Pure vicuña garments are among the most valuable textile pieces in the world and often cost thousands of dollars. Yarns containing real vicuña are rarely available for hand knitting and are usually reserved for couture weaving, luxury mills, and very limited textile production.
FILCOM VINICUNCA is one of those exceptional rare productions. The yarn is softly carded and intentionally slightly uneven — a natural interaction between airy vicuña down and smooth mulberry silk filament. This irregularity is part of the beauty of the yarn, creating a living surface with depth, softness, and organic elegance rather than a flat machine-perfect thread.
Mulberry silk stabilizes the delicate vicuña fibers, adds durability, and gives a refined sheen while preserving warmth, breathability, and extraordinary softness. After washing, the yarn relaxes and blooms beautifully, producing a soft halo while remaining incredibly light.

⚑ Why This Yarn Is Special
VINICUNCA is not an ordinary luxury yarn. It contains real vicuña — one of the rarest and most precious natural fibers in the world — blended with mulberry silk for stability, softness, drape, and a refined luminous finish.
The carded structure gives the yarn a natural, slightly uneven surface that feels alive and very special. Instead of looking flat or overly manufactured, the finished fabric has depth, softness, halo, and quiet organic elegance.
This yarn is ideal for makers who appreciate rare fibers, subtle luxury, and garments that feel truly unique. It is especially beautiful for lightweight sweaters, shawls, scarves, wraps, heirloom accessories, weaving, and soft layering pieces where the fiber itself becomes the focus.
✧ Fiber Profile
• Vicuña: extremely rare, feather-light, warm, and exceptionally soft
• Mulberry Silk: strength, drape, refinement, and subtle sheen
• Blend: luxurious warmth, breathability, softness, and elegant movement
• Carded structure: organic texture, delicate halo, and natural depth
➤ IMPORTANT — Yarn Usage
I knitted my sample in one strand using US size 3 needles, and I absolutely loved this yarn. It was easy to knit, very soft in the hands, and even before drying, the fabric started changing beautifully.
When I placed the sample in water, it became puffier almost immediately. After washing, the yarn opened up beautifully — softer, airier, fuller, and even more luxurious. The fabric developed a delicate halo and a very special lightness.
I recommend knitting this yarn in one strand for light, refined knitwear with an airy luxury feel. For warmer and fuller garments, two strands will create a richer, more winter-ready fabric while still keeping the yarn incredibly soft and weightless.
Recommended applications:
• One strand — lightweight luxury knitwear, shawls, scarves, soft layering pieces
• Two strands — warmer sweaters, wraps, cardigans, and richer winter garments
• With a base yarn — combine with merino, cashmere, silk, or wool for more structure and stability
• Excellent for weaving, refined textile work, and rare-fiber projects

Unlike other shops where cone costs are often built into the yarn price—regardless of the format—our pricing is transparent. You pay only for the yarn itself. If you’d like your order wound on a cone, it can be purchased separately. This small additional charge also helps cover packaging differences and the actual cost of the cone. No hidden fees, no inflated markups—just honest, straightforward pricing.
Please Note
Please Note
- Please keep in mind: cone yarns, especially those made with extra fine merino or cashmere, may include a protective coating used for industrial knitting. A few gentle washes will allow the yarn to bloom, soften, and reveal its natural texture.
- Colors are photographed in natural light but may appear slightly different depending on your screen.
- FOR YARN THAT IS CUSTOM-WOUND, ±1–2g variation per 100g may occur due to winding.
- Each ball/cone is wound with care and packed securely to ensure it reaches you in perfect condition.
