MANDORLO by RiGo, Italy is a luxury Italian grass yarn designed for knitters who want texture, movement, and a fashion-forward finished fabric without complicated stitch patterns. Made from 50% Silk and 50% Merino Wool, this yarn combines the visual interest of a specialty novelty yarn with the softness, drape, and comfort of natural luxury fibers.

The grass-like texture is the main beauty of this yarn. It creates dimension and movement in the fabric, making even simple stockinette look interesting and designer-inspired. The silk adds subtle sheen and fluid drape, while the merino wool adds softness, warmth, elasticity, and wearability. MANDORLO is a beautiful choice for statement sweaters, cardigans, scarves, shawls, textured trims, and boutique-style knitwear.

• Soft for a novelty yarn
• Lightweight and comfortable
• Beautiful drape
• Subtle silk sheen
• Gentle movement in finished fabric
• Textured but wearable
• Fashion-inspired appearance

⚑ Why This Yarn Is Special
MANDORLO is not a traditional smooth silk-merino yarn. Its specialty grass construction creates a textured surface that becomes part of the design. This makes the yarn especially useful for simple garments where the yarn itself provides the visual interest.

Many novelty yarns look interesting but can feel rough or difficult to wear. MANDORLO is different because the silk and merino blend keeps the fabric soft, flexible, and comfortable while still giving the project a distinctive designer look.

✦ Fiber Profile
• Silk — drape, softness, elegance, and subtle sheen
• Merino Wool — softness, elasticity, warmth, and comfort
• Combined Effect — textured luxury fabric with movement, softness, and wearability

➤ IMPORTANT — Yarn Usage
MANDORLO works beautifully as a main yarn for textured garments and accessories. Because the grass texture already creates strong visual interest, simple stitches are often the best choice.

Perfect for:
• Statement sweaters
• Textured cardigans
• Lightweight jackets
• Shawls and wraps
• Scarves and cowls
• Designer accessories
• Boutique-style knitwear
• Trims and accent details

➤ What This Yarn Does In Your Project
• Creates grass-like texture without complicated stitch patterns
• Adds movement, dimension, and visual interest
• Makes simple stockinette look designer-inspired
• Adds softness, drape, and subtle sheen
• Creates lightweight statement fabrics
• Works beautifully alone or paired with smooth luxury yarns

➤ Approximate Yarn Requirements
• Scarf: approximately 100–200g
• Shawl / Wrap: approximately 200–350g
• Sweater: approximately 400–700g
• Cardigan: approximately 450–750g
• Dress: approximately 700–1000g

For crochet projects, add approximately 10–20% more yarn.

➤ Recommended Pairings From iDOKNiT
Cashmere
Adds extra softness and warmth while allowing the grass texture to remain visible.

Silk Mohair
Adds halo and atmosphere for a more dramatic fashion fabric.

Baby Suri Alpaca
Creates a softer, fluffier, more textured luxury fabric.

Fine Merino
Adds structure and elasticity while keeping the fabric comfortable.

Silk
Enhances drape and elegance.

Personally, I think MANDORLO is strongest when paired with smooth yarns that do not compete with the grass texture.

✦ Recommended Needles / Hooks
Knitting Needles:
• US 4–8 (3.5–5.0 mm)

Crochet Hooks:
• 3.5–5.0 mm

Larger needles will emphasize drape and texture. Swatching is recommended, especially for garments.

⫯ Weaving Suitability
MANDORLO can be used as a novelty texture yarn in weaving. It is especially useful as a decorative weft yarn for scarves, wraps, panels, and textile art where softness, movement, and surface texture are desired.

⟳ Care Instructions
• Hand wash gently in cool water
• Use mild wool detergent
• Do not wring or twist
• Lay flat to dry
• Store folded

Formats: Balls (BY DEFAULT) or Cones (PLEASE PURCHASE)

FOR FULL-CONE SALES, THERE IS NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE FOR THE CONE. Yarn will remain on its original cone.

FOR YARN THAT IS NOT SOLD AS A FULL CONE BUT IN VARIOUS WOUND WEIGHTS, ALL YARN WILL BE WOUND INTO BALLS BY DEFAULT. CONES ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE YARN PRICE. However, we can wind it onto cones upon request. Cones may be purchased separately if you prefer continuous yardage for machine knitting or multi-strand projects. One color is typically wound per cone to maintain consistency.

PLEASE BUY CONES HERE

Unlike other shops where cone costs are often built into the yarn price—regardless of the format—our pricing is transparent. You pay only for the yarn itself. If you’d like your order wound on a cone, it can be purchased separately. This small additional charge also helps cover packaging differences and the actual cost of the cone. No hidden fees, no inflated markups—just honest, straightforward pricing.

Please Note

  • Please keep in mind: cone yarns, especially those made with extra fine merino or cashmere, may include a protective coating used for industrial knitting. A few gentle washes will allow the yarn to bloom, soften, and reveal its natural texture.
  • Colors are photographed in natural light but may appear slightly different depending on your screen.
  • FOR YARN THAT IS CUSTOM-WOUND, ±1–2g variation per 100g may occur due to winding.
  • Each ball/cone is wound with care and packed securely to ensure it reaches you in perfect condition.

Shipping & Order Processing

Orders are prepared in the order received and typically ship within 3–5 business days. Custom requests such as cone winding may require additional time. Multiple orders placed before shipment may be combined. Shipping refunds are not issued for combined orders.

We ship worldwide with tracking provided. As customs policies and tariffs can change frequently, any duties, taxes, or import fees are the sole responsibility of the buyer. These charges are not collected by us at the time of purchase but are typically paid to your local postal service or customs office upon the arrival of your package.
