GIMA 13 by Hasegawa is a remarkably fine Japanese cotton yarn created from 100% pure cotton and distinguished by its crisp, airy hand and delicate cable construction. With approximately 1300 meters / 1422 yards per 100 g, this is an exceptionally fine yarn intended for makers who enjoy building fabric through strand count, texture, and thoughtful construction rather than relying on a thicker ready-made yarn.

What makes GIMA 13 especially interesting is its combination of lightness and structure. The yarn begins with a dry, refined, almost paper-light character, then softens beautifully after washing and wear. Its cable construction adds strength and a subtle surface texture, giving the finished fabric more definition and stability than many smooth ultra-fine cotton yarns. This makes it especially appealing for openwork garments, lightweight layering pieces, refined accessories, and artistic textile work.

⚑ Why This Yarn Is Special
GIMA 13 offers a very distinctive cotton experience. Instead of feeling soft and round like conventional cotton yarn, it feels dry, refined, feather-light, and architectural. The cable construction gives it more strength and a more defined surface, which helps create fabrics with clarity, elegance, and a modern textural look.

Because it is so fine, this yarn is especially attractive for makers who want control. It can be used in multiple strands to create lightweight garments with structure and drape, or incorporated into textile work where delicacy, breathability, and visual refinement matter. After washing, the finished fabric relaxes and softens while still preserving the yarn’s unique identity.

⌁ Texture & Feel
• Crisp, feather-light, and airy
• Fine cable texture with subtle definition
• Dry, refined cotton hand
• Lightly structured rather than fluffy or dense
• Softens beautifully after washing
• Elegant, modern surface character

✧ Natural Fiber Profile — Pure Cotton
This yarn is spun from one of the most versatile fibers for breathable, wearable textiles.

Cotton adds:
• Breathability
• Comfort next to the skin
• Strength and practicality
• Clean stitch definition
• A natural, lightweight feel

In this extra-fine cable format, cotton becomes especially interesting for makers who want structure, airiness, and texture rather than softness alone.

➤ IMPORTANT — Yarn Usage
• Single-strand hand knitting: generally too fine for most practical standalone garments
• Best for hand knitting and crochet in multiple strands held together
• Especially well suited for lightweight structured fabrics, lacework, and refined openwork
• A beautiful option for summer garments, airy wraps, scarves, and artistic accessories
• Also highly suitable for weaving and textile design work

⋔ Recommended Yarn Usage
• Lightweight scarf or narrow wrap: approx. 150–200 g
• Shawl or openwork wrap: approx. 200–300 g
• Summer top or shell: approx. 250–400 g
• Lightweight sweater (S–M): approx. 350–500 g
• Sweater (L–XL): approx. 500–650 g
• Long cardigan, tunic, or dress: approx. 650–900 g

➤ Recommended Pairings From iDOKNiT
GIMA 13 is beautiful in multiple strands on its own, but it can also pair wonderfully with other fine fibers to create more distinctive fabrics.

Silk
Adds drape, softness, and a more fluid elegant finish.

Fine Cotton
Creates a more relaxed, wearable fabric while preserving breathability and clarity.

Linen
Enhances the crisp, airy, textural character for modern summer garments and accessories.

Soft Lace Companions
Can soften the hand slightly and add more dimension while keeping the fabric light.

These pairings make GIMA 13 especially appealing to makers who enjoy building fabrics with texture, lightness, structure, and a clean modern look.

✦ Recommended Needles / Hooks
• Because this yarn is extremely fine, it is generally most practical in multiple strands held together
• The final needle or hook size depends on strand count and the amount of structure or drape you want in the fabric
• This yarn is best approached as a fine construction yarn rather than a standard single-strand cotton

⫯ Weaving Suitability
• Excellent for fine weaving and textile work
• Beautiful for lightweight scarves, openwork panels, delicate accessories, and artistic fabric development
• The cable construction gives the yarn useful strength while preserving lightness

⟳ Care Instructions
• Hand wash gently in cold water with mild detergent
• Do not wring or twist
• Lay flat to dry out of direct sunlight
• The fabric softens and relaxes beautifully after washing

Formats: Balls (BY DEFAULT) or Cones (PLEASE PURCHASE)

FOR FULL-CONE SALES, THERE IS NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE FOR THE CONE. Yarn will remain on its original cone.

FOR YARN THAT IS NOT SOLD AS A FULL CONE BUT IN VARIOUS WOUND WEIGHTS, ALL YARN WILL BE WOUND INTO BALLS BY DEFAULT. CONES ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE YARN PRICE. However, we can wind it onto cones upon request. Cones may be purchased separately if you prefer continuous yardage for machine knitting or multi-strand projects. One color is typically wound per cone to maintain consistency.

PLEASE BUY CONES HERE

Unlike other shops where cone costs are often built into the yarn price—regardless of the format—our pricing is transparent. You pay only for the yarn itself. If you’d like your order wound on a cone, it can be purchased separately. This small additional charge also helps cover packaging differences and the actual cost of the cone. No hidden fees, no inflated markups—just honest, straightforward pricing.

Please Note

  • Please keep in mind: cone yarns, especially those made with extra fine merino or cashmere, may include a protective coating used for industrial knitting. A few gentle washes will allow the yarn to bloom, soften, and reveal its natural texture.
  • Colors are photographed in natural light but may appear slightly different depending on your screen.
  • FOR YARN THAT IS CUSTOM-WOUND, ±1–2g variation per 100g may occur due to winding.
  • Each ball/cone is wound with care and packed securely to ensure it reaches you in perfect condition.
