➤ My First Impressions
The first thing that caught my attention was the unusual construction. Every inch or two, the yarn forms tiny decorative knots that immediately add texture and personality without overwhelming the fabric. This is exactly the kind of detail you expect from yarn developed for a luxury fashion house.
This is not a yarn I would knit as a single strand. In my opinion, its true beauty appears when it is held together with other strands or combined with another luxury yarn. That's when the decorative knots begin creating beautiful tweed-like textures, giving the finished fabric remarkable depth and movement.
I also love the subtle elasticity created by the polyamide content. It gives the fabric structure without making it feel stiff, helping garments hold their shape while remaining comfortable to wear.
To me, CALEDONIA is less of a traditional cotton yarn and more of a designer ingredient. It instantly transforms even the simplest stitch patterns into fabrics with couture-inspired character and modern sophistication.
✦ Texture & Feel:
Soft cotton with a dry, structured hand, delicate decorative knots, gentle elasticity, and a refined matte finish. The evenly spaced textured accents create beautiful movement throughout the fabric, making even simple stockinette appear sophisticated and unique.
Rather than dominating the fabric, the decorative knots become subtle design elements that elevate the overall appearance while maintaining excellent stitch definition.
➤ Recommended Uses:
Ideal for tweed-style sweaters, cardigans, modern jackets, wraps, tunics, textured summer garments, couture-inspired accessories, contemporary layering pieces, lightweight coats, and artistic weaving projects where texture becomes part of the design.
✧ Tips & Recommendations:
This yarn is designed to be held together with additional strands or blended with other fibers. I rarely recommend using it as a single strand. Instead, think of it as a luxury designer yarn that enhances other fibers by adding beautiful texture, movement, and architectural character.
Simple stitch patterns beautifully showcase the decorative knot construction, while combining CALEDONIA with smooth yarns creates fabrics that resemble luxury designer tweeds.
Always knit and wash a swatch before beginning your project to determine the ideal strand combination and fabric density.
➤ Recommended Needles/Hooks:
• Best held together with 2–4 total strands
• Suggested knitting needles: 3.5–5.0 mm depending on strand combination
• Crochet: Select hook size according to the total strand count and desired fabric
• Excellent companion yarn for blending with smooth luxury fibers
• Always make a washed swatch before beginning your project.
➤ Weaving Suitability:
Excellent for weaving, particularly as a textured weft yarn. The decorative knots create beautiful visual interest throughout woven fabrics and add remarkable depth to scarves, shawls, jackets, and contemporary textiles. If used as warp, slight tension adjustments may be necessary because of the textured construction.
➤ Recommended Pairings From iDOKNiT:
One of the greatest strengths of CALEDONIA is its versatility as a companion yarn. While beautiful when held in multiple strands, it truly shines when combined with other luxury fibers, creating fabrics with exceptional depth and designer character.

Unlike other shops where cone costs are often built into the yarn price—regardless of the format—our pricing is transparent. You pay only for the yarn itself. No hidden fees, no inflated markups—just honest, straightforward pricing.
Please Note
Please Note
- Please keep in mind: cone yarns, especially those made with extra fine merino or cashmere, may include a protective coating used for industrial knitting. A few gentle washes will allow the yarn to bloom, soften, and reveal its natural texture.
- Colors are photographed in natural light but may appear slightly different depending on your screen.
- FOR YARN THAT IS CUSTOM-WOUND, ±1–2g variation per 100g may occur due to winding.
- Each ball/cone is wound with care and packed securely to ensure it reaches you in perfect condition.
