SHETLAND by KNOLL is a fine Italian yarn made from 100% Shetland Wool, offering natural warmth, resilience, and the distinctive woolly character of Shetland fiber. At 700m/100g (765y/3.52oz), this lightweight Lace Weight yarn can be used alone, held in multiple strands, or combined with other fine fibers.

Its fine 2-ply mélange construction creates subtle tonal depth and a naturally woolly surface, making it especially attractive for Fair Isle, stranded colorwork, jacquard, intarsia, sweaters, cardigans, shawls, and traditional-inspired knitwear.

➤ Recommended Pairings From iDOKNiT
SHETLAND can be combined with other fine yarns to adjust softness, halo, drape, or structure while retaining its natural wool character.

Natural Fibers
• Merino — adds softness and elasticity
• Cashmere — adds softness and luxury
• Baby Alpaca — adds softness, warmth, and halo
• Silk — adds smoothness and drape
• Linen — adds structure and textural contrast

Recommended Pairings Available at iDOKNiT
CASHWOOL by Zegna Baruffa — Extrafine Merino for a smoother, softer wool blend
HARMONY by Tollegno / Lana Gatto — Extrafine Merino for additional softness and elasticity
SOFIA by PROFILO — Baby Alpaca and Merino for additional softness and halo
CRISTALLO by Filati Power — Merino, Silk, and Cashmere for a more luxurious blend
MICIO by NEW MILL — Cashmere and Silk for softness and a fluffy surface
QUARANTALINO by Toscano — ultra-fine Linen for structure and an interesting wool-linen combination

My Recommendation: For traditional colorwork, I would first combine different SHETLAND shades with each other. For a softer fabric, add a fine Merino, Cashmere, or Baby Alpaca companion yarn.

⫯ Weaving Suitability
Suitable for lightweight woven wool fabrics, scarves, shawls, wraps, and other fine wool textiles. For warp use, sample first to evaluate abrasion and tension on your particular loom.

⟳ Care Instructions
• Hand wash gently in cool water with wool-safe detergent
• Avoid rubbing, wringing, or excessive agitation
• Gently press excess water out with a towel
• Reshape and lay flat to dry
• Avoid excessive heat
• Always wet-block a test swatch before beginning your project to evaluate the finished texture and gauge.

Formats: Balls (BY DEFAULT) or Cones (PLEASE PURCHASE)

FOR FULL-CONE SALES, THERE IS NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE FOR THE CONE. Yarn will remain on its original cone.

FOR YARN THAT IS NOT SOLD AS A FULL CONE BUT IN VARIOUS WOUND WEIGHTS, ALL YARN WILL BE WOUND INTO BALLS BY DEFAULT. CONES ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE YARN PRICE. However, we can wind it onto cones upon request. Cones may be purchased separately if you prefer continuous yardage for machine knitting or multi-strand projects. One color is typically wound per cone to maintain consistency.

PLEASE BUY CONES HERE

Unlike other shops where cone costs are often built into the yarn price—regardless of the format—our pricing is transparent. You pay only for the yarn itself. If you’d like your order wound on a cone, it can be purchased separately. This small additional charge also helps cover packaging differences and the actual cost of the cone. No hidden fees, no inflated markups—just honest, straightforward pricing.

Please Note

  • Please keep in mind: cone yarns, especially those made with extra fine merino or cashmere, may include a protective coating used for industrial knitting. A few gentle washes will allow the yarn to bloom, soften, and reveal its natural texture.
  • Colors are photographed in natural light but may appear slightly different depending on your screen.
  • FOR YARN THAT IS CUSTOM-WOUND, ±1–2g variation per 100g may occur due to winding.
  • Each ball/cone is wound with care and packed securely to ensure it reaches you in perfect condition.

Shipping & Order Processing

Orders are prepared in the order received and typically ship within 3–5 business days. Custom requests such as cone winding may require additional time. Multiple orders placed before shipment may be combined. Shipping refunds are not issued for combined orders.

We ship worldwide with tracking provided. As customs policies and tariffs can change frequently, any duties, taxes, or import fees are the sole responsibility of the buyer. These charges are not collected by us at the time of purchase but are typically paid to your local postal service or customs office upon the arrival of your package.
