100% Italian cashmere with character — and so many ways to knit it!

DONEGAL COARSEHAIR by LORO PIANA brings together the softness and warmth of pure cashmere with a subtly textured, refined matte appearance. Unlike a perfectly smooth, conventional cashmere yarn, its understated character adds visual interest to simple stitches, making it especially appealing for relaxed, elegant knitwear.

At 600 meters per 100 grams, this fine yarn gives you wonderful flexibility. Knit it as a single strand for a lightweight, delicate fabric, or combine two, three, or four strands to create the thickness and warmth you want. One yarn can become anything from an airy cashmere shawl to a substantial winter sweater.

Knitting Suggestions
• 1 strand: 600m/100g — Lace weight. Try US 2–4 (2.75–3.5 mm) for delicate shawls, lightweight sweaters, and fine layering pieces.
• 2 strands: 300m/100g — Sport-range fabric. Try US 3–5 (3.25–3.75 mm) for everyday cashmere sweaters, soft cardigans, and scarves.
• 3 strands: 200m/100g — DK-range fabric. Try US 5–7 (3.75–4.5 mm) for cozy pullovers, relaxed cardigans, and warmer accessories.
• 4 strands: 150m/100g — Worsted-range fabric. Try US 7–9 (4.5–5.5 mm) for substantial winter sweaters, thick scarves, and cozy knitwear.

These are suggested starting points, not guaranteed gauges. Choose your needles according to the fabric you want, and always check a washed swatch.

Needles & Care
• Crochet Hook: Approximately 3–5.5 mm, depending on the number of strands and desired fabric.
• Care: Gently hand wash in cool water with a cashmere-friendly detergent. Do not rub or wring. Lay flat to dry.
• Swatch: Wash and dry your swatch before measuring gauge. Cashmere can become softer and fuller after washing, changing the appearance and feel of the finished fabric.

Suggested Projects
Imagine a feather-light cashmere shawl in a single strand, a beautifully soft everyday sweater in two strands, or a cozy, relaxed cardigan in three or four. The yarn's subtle texture is particularly attractive in stockinette, garter stitch, and uncomplicated silhouettes, where the natural character of the cashmere can take center stage.

DONEGAL COARSEHAIR can also be held alongside merino, silk, or other fine yarns to introduce extra cashmere softness, warmth, and subtle texture. It's a lovely option when you want to customize the feel of your fabric without overwhelming the original yarn.

Formats: Balls (BY DEFAULT) or Cones (PLEASE PURCHASE)

⚑ FOR FULL-CONE SALES, THERE IS NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE FOR THE CONE. Yarn will remain on its original cone.

⚑ FOR YARN THAT IS NOT SOLD AS A FULL CONE BUT IN VARIOUS WOUND WEIGHTS, ALL YARN WILL BE WOUND INTO BALLS BY DEFAULT. CONES ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE YARN PRICE. However, we can wind it onto cones upon request. Cones may be purchased separately if you prefer continuous yardage for machine knitting or multi-strand projects. One color is typically wound per cone to maintain consistency.

PLEASE BUY CONES HERE

Unlike other shops where cone costs are often built into the yarn price—regardless of the format—our pricing is transparent. You pay only for the yarn itself. If you’d like your order wound on a cone, it can be purchased separately. This small additional charge also helps cover packaging differences and the actual cost of the cone. No hidden fees, no inflated markups—just honest, straightforward pricing.

Please Note

  • Please keep in mind: cone yarns, especially those made with extra fine merino or cashmere, may include a protective coating used for industrial knitting. A few gentle washes will allow the yarn to bloom, soften, and reveal its natural texture.
  • Colors are photographed in natural light but may appear slightly different depending on your screen.
  • FOR YARN THAT IS CUSTOM-WOUND, ±1–2g variation per 100g may occur due to winding.
  • Each ball/cone is wound with care and packed securely to ensure it reaches you in perfect condition.

Shipping & Order Processing

Orders are prepared in the order received and typically ship within 3–5 business days. Custom requests such as cone winding may require additional time. Multiple orders placed before shipment may be combined. Shipping refunds are not issued for combined orders.

We ship worldwide with tracking provided. As customs policies and tariffs can change frequently, any duties, taxes, or import fees are the sole responsibility of the buyer. These charges are not collected by us at the time of purchase but are typically paid to your local postal service or customs office upon the arrival of your package.
