➤ My First Impressions
Even before knitting, MAKO immediately feels like a premium yarn. The strand is exceptionally smooth, soft, and beautifully even, with the refined quality that I have come to expect from Loro Piana.
Although this is an extra-fine lace-weight yarn, it is designed to be worked in multiple strands, giving you complete freedom to create fabrics ranging from delicate lightweight garments to comfortable everyday knitwear. I recommend beginning with approximately five to six strands for hand knitting and adjusting according to the fabric you would like to achieve.
What I appreciate most is the balance between the fibers. The cotton keeps the fabric breathable, lightweight, and comfortable even during warmer months, while the cashmere contributes a subtle luxury that makes the finished fabric noticeably softer and more elegant than traditional cotton yarns.
The yarn forms beautifully even stitches, glides effortlessly on the needles, and creates fabrics with excellent drape and refined stitch definition. It is an outstanding choice for knitters who appreciate natural fibers, understated luxury, and exceptional Italian quality.
Because of its remarkable softness, I would also confidently recommend MAKO for baby garments, children's knitwear, and anyone looking for lightweight luxury that feels wonderful next to the skin.
✦ Texture & Feel:
Wonderfully smooth, soft, and breathable with the natural freshness of premium cotton enhanced by the luxurious touch of cashmere. The yarn produces fabrics with elegant drape, crisp stitch definition, and exceptional next-to-skin comfort while remaining lightweight and comfortable throughout the year.
Unlike ordinary cotton yarns, MAKO feels noticeably more refined, softer, and more fluid, creating garments that combine everyday practicality with unmistakable luxury.
If you appreciate timeless elegance rather than flashy luxury, this yarn creates fabrics that are both sophisticated and incredibly comfortable to wear.
➤ Recommended Uses:
Perfect for elegant summer sweaters, lightweight cardigans, shells, T-shirts, shawls, scarves, wraps, baby garments, children's knitwear, layering pieces, lightweight accessories, luxury crochet projects, and refined everyday knitwear.
✧ Tips & Recommendations:
Because of its exceptionally fine meterage, MAKO allows you to build exactly the fabric you want by simply adjusting the number of strands.
For hand knitting, I recommend beginning with approximately five to six strands, adjusting according to your preferred thickness and drape. Stockinette, ribs, understated lace, and simple textured stitches all beautifully showcase the elegant smoothness and stitch definition of this yarn.
MAKO is equally beautiful knitted on its own or combined with other luxury fibers to introduce additional softness, comfort, and refinement without unnecessary weight.
Always knit and wash a swatch before beginning your project to determine the ideal strand count, gauge, and finished fabric.
➤ Recommended Needles/Hooks:
• Recommended starting point: Five to six strands
• Knitting Needles (5–6 strands): US 2–4 (2.75–3.5 mm)
• Crochet Hooks (5–6 strands): 3.5–4.5 mm
• Adjust needle or hook size according to desired fabric and drape
• Always make a washed swatch before beginning your project.
➤ Weaving Suitability:
Excellent for weaving. MAKO creates woven fabrics with exceptional softness, beautiful drape, and smooth surface definition. Its high cotton content provides strength and stability, while the cashmere adds luxurious softness, making it an excellent choice for scarves, shawls, lightweight apparel fabrics, and elegant home textiles.
⋔ Recommended Yarn Usage:
Approximate requirements when knitted with approximately five to six strands:
• Summer Top: 250–350g
• Sweater (M): 300–400g
• Lightweight Cardigan: 350–450g
• Shawl or Wrap: 150–250g
• Scarf: 100–180g
• Baby Blanket: 250–350g
• Baby Sweater: 100–150g
Actual yarn requirements will vary depending on garment size, stitch pattern, gauge, strand count, and desired fabric density.

Please Note
- Please keep in mind: cone yarns, especially those made with extra fine merino or cashmere, may include a protective coating used for industrial knitting. A few gentle washes will allow the yarn to bloom, soften, and reveal its natural texture.
- Colors are photographed in natural light but may appear slightly different depending on your screen.
- FOR YARN THAT IS CUSTOM-WOUND, ±1–2g variation per 100g may occur due to winding.
- Each ball/cone is wound with care and packed securely to ensure it reaches you in perfect condition.
