Discover the distinctive beauty of FLAME by PROFILO, Italy, an elegant Italian summer yarn combining 47% Linen, 45% Viscose, and 8% Polyester. This beautifully balanced blend brings together the breathable, natural character of linen with the smooth drape and subtle fluidity of viscose, creating a lightweight yarn ideal for sophisticated warm-weather and transitional knitwear.

FLAME has a beautiful tweed-like appearance created by subtle multicolored flecks throughout the strand, giving finished fabrics depth and personality without becoming overly busy. Its very fine construction also gives you complete freedom to control the thickness of your fabric simply by changing the number of strands, making it equally interesting for lightweight garments, layering pieces, shawls, and as a companion yarn.

➤ My First Impressions
I knitted my sample using three strands on US 4 (3.5 mm) knitting needles, and I really enjoyed working with this yarn. Three strands created a beautiful lightweight fabric with enough substance for summer and transitional garments while still preserving the airy character of the linen blend.

One of the first things that caught my attention was the subtle tweed-like effect. The small variations and multicolored flecks throughout the yarn create beautiful depth and movement, giving even simple knitting a more interesting and sophisticated appearance.

The yarn feels soft and pleasant in the hands, especially for a blend with such a high percentage of linen. The viscose adds beautiful fluidity and helps soften the naturally crisp character of the linen, creating a fabric that feels elegant rather than rigid.

After washing, the sample opened beautifully. The stitches relaxed and became more even, and the fabric developed a softer, more graceful drape while maintaining the natural structure and character of the linen.

Another feature I really like is the ability to control the final thickness simply by changing the number of strands. I used three strands for my sample, but you can easily add or remove strands depending on the fabric and project you want to create.

I highly recommend FLAME for anyone looking for an interesting, versatile summer yarn with natural texture, beautiful drape, and a subtle designer tweed effect.

✦ Texture & Feel:
Lightweight, soft, and naturally textured with the fresh, breathable character of linen and the smooth fluidity of viscose. The subtle multicolored flecks create an understated tweed-like appearance that adds depth without overwhelming the fabric.

After washing, the yarn relaxes beautifully, becoming softer and more fluid while preserving enough structure to create elegant garments with clean lines and graceful movement.

If you enjoy natural-looking summer yarns with a little more character than a completely smooth linen, FLAME offers a beautiful balance of texture, softness, and sophisticated simplicity.

➤ Recommended Uses:
Perfect for lightweight summer tops, sweaters, cardigans, shells, tunics, vests, shawls, scarves, wraps, openwork garments, transitional knitwear, elegant accessories, and lightweight layering pieces.

✧ Tips & Recommendations:
Because FLAME is an exceptionally fine yarn, one of its greatest advantages is the ability to customize the finished fabric simply by changing the number of strands.

For hand knitting, I recommend starting with approximately three strands, as I used for my sample, and adjusting from there according to your desired thickness and drape. Fewer strands can be used for very delicate openwork fabrics, while additional strands will create more substantial garments.

Simple stockinette, garter stitch, understated lace, and uncomplicated textured stitches all allow the beautiful tweed-like flecks and natural linen character to remain visible.

Always knit and wash a swatch before beginning your project to determine the ideal strand count, gauge, and finished fabric.

➤ Recommended Needles/Hooks:
• My sample: Three strands on US 4 (3.5 mm) knitting needles
• Hand knitting: Start with approximately 2–3 strands and adjust according to your desired fabric
• Crochet: Select hook size according to strand count and preferred density
• Additional strands may be used for heavier garments
• Always make a washed swatch before beginning your project.

➤ Weaving Suitability:
Excellent for weaving. The combination of linen and viscose creates fabrics with natural texture, beautiful drape, and elegant movement, while the subtle colored flecks add visual depth. Particularly suitable for lightweight scarves, shawls, decorative textiles, summer fabrics, and sophisticated weft effects.

⋔ Recommended Yarn Usage:
Approximate requirements when knitted with approximately three strands:
• Summer Top: 250–350g
• Lightweight Sweater (M): 350–450g
• Lightweight Cardigan: 400–550g
• Summer Vest: 250–350g
• Shawl or Wrap: 180–280g
• Scarf: 120–200g

Actual yarn requirements will vary depending on garment size, gauge, stitch pattern, strand count, and desired fabric density.

➤ Recommended Pairings From iDOKNiT:
One of the most interesting features of FLAME is how easily it can be combined with other fine yarns. Its linen structure, viscose drape, and subtle tweed-like flecks can completely transform a smoother yarn while adding texture and contemporary designer character.

Natural Fibers
• Fine Linen – Enhances the natural summer character while adding structure and breathability.
• Cotton – Creates comfortable lightweight fabrics with clean stitch definition.
• Silk – Adds luxurious drape and elegant natural luster.
• Fine Merino – Introduces softness and elasticity for transitional garments.
• Kid Mohair – Adds an airy halo while allowing the tweed-like texture to remain visible.

Recommended Pairings Available at iDOKNiT
LORO PIANA EXODUS – Adds refined Mulberry Silk drape and elegant luster to the natural linen texture.
LORO PIANA SHANTUNG JASPÉ – Creates an extraordinary combination of natural irregular textures and sophisticated designer depth.
KATHERINE by SÜDWOLLE GROUP – Adds the softness of Extrafine Merino and Silk while preserving FLAME's distinctive texture.
Fine Italian Linen Collections – Perfect for lightweight summer garments with additional structure, texture, and breathability.
Fine Mercerized Cotton – Creates comfortable summer fabrics with beautiful definition and a more polished finish.

My Recommendation: FLAME is beautiful knitted on its own in multiple strands, but it can also be an excellent companion yarn. Try adding one or two strands to linen, silk, cotton, or fine merino to introduce subtle tweed texture, beautiful drape, and an interesting designer character without making the fabric heavy.

⟳ Care Instructions:
• Hand wash gently in cool water with a delicate detergent
• Do not wring or twist
• Gently press excess water out with a towel
• Lay flat to dry away from direct sunlight
• Reshape while damp
• After washing, the linen-viscose blend relaxes beautifully, becoming softer and more fluid while maintaining its elegant natural texture.

Formats: Balls (BY DEFAULT) or Cones (PLEASE PURCHASE)

FOR FULL-CONE SALES, THERE IS NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE FOR THE CONE. Yarn will remain on its original cone.

FOR YARN THAT IS NOT SOLD AS A FULL CONE BUT IN VARIOUS WOUND WEIGHTS, ALL YARN WILL BE WOUND INTO BALLS BY DEFAULT. CONES ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE YARN PRICE. However, we can wind it onto cones upon request. Cones may be purchased separately if you prefer continuous yardage for machine knitting or multi-strand projects. One color is typically wound per cone to maintain consistency.

PLEASE BUY CONES HERE

Unlike other shops where cone costs are often built into the yarn price—regardless of the format—our pricing is transparent. You pay only for the yarn itself. If you’d like your order wound on a cone, it can be purchased separately. This small additional charge also helps cover packaging differences and the actual cost of the cone. No hidden fees, no inflated markups—just honest, straightforward pricing.

Please Note

  • Please keep in mind: cone yarns, especially those made with extra fine merino or cashmere, may include a protective coating used for industrial knitting. A few gentle washes will allow the yarn to bloom, soften, and reveal its natural texture.
  • Colors are photographed in natural light but may appear slightly different depending on your screen.
  • FOR YARN THAT IS CUSTOM-WOUND, ±1–2g variation per 100g may occur due to winding.
  • Each ball/cone is wound with care and packed securely to ensure it reaches you in perfect condition.

Shipping & Order Processing

Orders are prepared in the order received and typically ship within 3–5 business days. Custom requests such as cone winding may require additional time. Multiple orders placed before shipment may be combined. Shipping refunds are not issued for combined orders.

We ship worldwide with tracking provided. As customs policies and tariffs can change frequently, any duties, taxes, or import fees are the sole responsibility of the buyer. These charges are not collected by us at the time of purchase but are typically paid to your local postal service or customs office upon the arrival of your package.
