Discover PAILLETTES by PROFILO, a rare Italian Cashmere Paillettes yarn made from 98% Cashmere and 2% delicate sequins. Exceptionally soft and lightweight, this luxury Fingering-weight yarn combines the natural warmth and beautiful bloom of premium Cashmere with sophisticated points of light for an elegant alternative to heavily embellished sequin yarns.
At 450m/100g (492y/3.52oz), PAILLETTES can be hand knitted in a single strand or combined with another fine yarn. Tiny paillettes appear at regular intervals of about 10–12 inches (25–30 cm), creating subtle shimmer as the fabric moves while allowing the Cashmere texture to remain the focus.
An exceptional choice for Brunello Cucinelli-style cashmere sweaters and cardigans, PAILLETTES is especially beautiful in relaxed silhouettes, minimalist knitwear, simple stockinette, scarves, shawls, and sophisticated accessories. Its combination of nearly pure Cashmere and understated sparkle creates the refined, effortless character associated with luxury Italian knitwear.

➤ My First Impressions
What immediately makes this yarn special is the balance between almost pure Cashmere and delicate sparkle. The paillettes do not dominate the yarn—they appear as tiny individual flashes of light against the Cashmere.
The yarn itself feels exceptionally soft and lightweight, and the paillettes are small enough that the overall impression remains refined and luxurious rather than heavily embellished. I especially like that this is substantial enough to use as the main yarn for an entire garment, while it can also be held together with another yarn when only a touch of sparkle is desired.
✦ Texture & Feel:
Exceptionally soft, lightweight, and luxurious with the characteristic delicate halo of fine Cashmere. The tiny paillettes are distributed throughout the strand, creating subtle points of reflected light without turning the fabric into a heavily sequined surface.
After washing, the Cashmere should relax and bloom around the strand, creating an even softer surface and allowing the paillettes to appear almost suspended within the Cashmere halo.
This combination is particularly beautiful in simple fabrics where both elements—the softness of Cashmere and the scattered sparkle—can be appreciated.
➤ Strand Weight Guide
• 1 strand — Fingering — 450m/100g (492y/3.52oz)
• 2 strands — DK — 225m/100g (246y/3.52oz)
• 3 strands — Chunky — 150m/100g (164y/3.52oz)
• 4 strands — Chunky — 113m/100g (123y/3.52oz)
Because the paillettes add visual dimension and the Cashmere will bloom after washing, always knit and wash a swatch before selecting your final strand count and gauge.
➤ Recommended Uses:
Perfect for luxurious sweaters, cardigans, tops, elegant evening knitwear, shawls, wraps, scarves, cowls, hats, special-occasion garments, sophisticated layering pieces, and statement accessories.
It is also beautiful for selective details such as cuffs, collars, borders, stripes, yokes, or decorative panels when you want to introduce sparkle without using it throughout the entire garment.
PAILLETTES can be used alone or held together with another yarn to add both Cashmere softness and delicate sparkle.
✧ Tips & Recommendations:
At 450m/100g (492y/3.52oz), one strand already falls within Fingering Weight, so this yarn does not require multiple strands for hand knitting.
Use one strand for lightweight, elegant garments where you want the Cashmere and paillettes to remain delicate and refined. Two strands create a much fuller DK-weight fabric with more visible sparkle and additional warmth.
PAILLETTES can also be carried together with a plain Merino, Cashmere, Silk, Mohair, Linen, or Cotton yarn. This is an excellent way to introduce scattered paillettes throughout a garment while allowing another yarn to determine the primary structure and character of the fabric.
Simple stockinette is an excellent choice because the uncomplicated surface allows the paillettes to catch the light naturally. Ribbing, garter stitch, understated textures, and simple openwork can also work beautifully.
Always knit and wash a swatch before beginning your project. Cashmere changes noticeably after washing, and the finished fabric should be evaluated only after the fibers have had an opportunity to relax and bloom.
➤ Recommended Needles/Hooks:
• 1 strand: US 2–5 (2.75–3.75 mm)
• 2 strands: US 5–7 (3.75–4.5 mm)
• Crochet: Select hook size according to desired fabric density and drape
• For a lighter, more open fabric, use a larger needle within or above the suggested range
• Always knit or crochet and wash a swatch before beginning your project
➤ Multi-Strand Gauge & Needles Guide
• 1 strand — Fingering Weight — 450m/100g (492y/3.52oz) — US 2–5 (2.75–3.75 mm)
• 2 strands — DK Weight — 225m/100g (246y/3.52oz) — US 5–7 (3.75–4.5 mm)
• 3 strands — Chunky Weight — 150m/100g (164y/3.52oz) — US 8–10 (5.0–6.0 mm)
• 4 strands — Chunky Weight — 113m/100g (123y/3.52oz) — US 10.5–11 (6.5–8.0 mm)
• Always knit/crochet and wet-block a test swatch to verify final gauge, Cashmere bloom, and paillette placement.
➤ Weaving Suitability:
PAILLETTES can create beautiful luxury woven fabrics, particularly when used as a decorative weft. The fine Cashmere provides exceptional softness while the small paillettes introduce subtle points of light across the surface.
It is particularly attractive for scarves, shawls, wraps, accent stripes, decorative panels, and couture-inspired textiles.
For warp applications, I recommend sampling first because both the high Cashmere content and incorporated paillettes require more careful tension and handling than a conventional tightly spun yarn.
⋔ Recommended Yarn Usage:
• Lightweight Sweater (M): 300–400g / 10.6–14.1 oz
• Cardigan: 350–500g / 12.3–17.6 oz
• Short-Sleeve Top: 200–300g / 7.1–10.6 oz
• Shawl or Wrap: 150–250g / 5.3–8.8 oz
• Scarf: 120–200g / 4.2–7.1 oz
• Hat: 70–100g / 2.5–3.5 oz
• Small Accent or Trim: 50–100g / 1.8–3.5 oz
Actual yarn requirements will vary depending on garment size, stitch pattern, gauge, strand count, needle size, and desired fabric density.
➤ Recommended Pairings From iDOKNiT:
PAILLETTES is particularly versatile as a companion yarn because it adds two elements at once—Cashmere softness and delicate sparkle. It can completely transform a simple base yarn without covering its natural character.
Natural Fibers
• Merino Wool – Adds elasticity and structure while the PAILLETTES contributes softness and sparkle
• Cashmere – Creates exceptionally luxurious, soft winter fabrics
• Silk – Enhances drape and luminosity
• Kid Mohair – Creates an airy halo with tiny flashes of light appearing through the fibers
• Linen – Creates a beautiful contrast between crisp natural texture and luxurious Cashmere
• Cotton – Adds structure and breathability for lighter transitional garments
Recommended Pairings Available at iDOKNiT
• CASHWOOL by Zegna Baruffa – A refined Extrafine Merino base that adds elasticity and clean structure while allowing the Cashmere and paillettes to remain visible
• HARMONY by Tollegno 1900 / Lana Gatto – Adds exceptionally smooth Extrafine Merino structure and creates a beautifully balanced luxury fabric
• CRISTALLO by Filati Power – Combines Extrafine Merino, Silk, and Cashmere with PAILLETTES for an exceptionally rich multi-fiber luxury blend
• MICIO by NEW MILL – Adds a soft brushed Cashmere/Silk halo around the scattered paillettes for a sophisticated textured effect
• AURA SOFT by BIAGIOLI MODESTO – Creates an exceptionally soft Cashmere/Silk combination with additional fluffy texture and delicate sparkle
• DAFNE by FILATURA DI TRIVERO – Combines two exceptional Cashmere/Silk-rich yarns for lightweight, sophisticated luxury knitwear
My Recommendation: PAILLETTES is especially interesting because you are not buying a basic carrier yarn simply to obtain sequins—98% of the yarn is Cashmere. It can stand completely on its own as a luxury yarn, with the paillettes acting only as a sophisticated accent. For an elegant sweater or cardigan, even simple stockinette can be enough: the Cashmere provides the beautiful surface and softness, while the tiny sequins create movement and light.
⟳ Care Instructions:
• Hand wash gently in cool water using a Cashmere/wool-safe detergent
• Do not wring, twist, scrub, or rub
• Handle gently to protect the incorporated paillettes
• Gently press excess water out with a towel
• Reshape while damp
• Lay flat to dry away from direct sunlight
• Do not hang the wet garment
• Always wash a swatch first to evaluate the final gauge, Cashmere bloom, softness, and appearance of the paillettes
