A little touch of alpaca can transform your entire knitting project!

ALPACA 70 by Italian manufacturer RI.GO is an exceptionally fine, fluffy alpaca yarn that brings softness, warmth, and a delicate halo to knitted fabrics without adding unnecessary bulk. Its lightweight construction makes it a wonderful companion yarn for merino, silk, cashmere, cotton, and many other fibers.

Hold a single strand alongside your favorite yarn to create a softer, gently fuzzy surface, or work with multiple strands of ALPACA 70 for beautifully airy sweaters, cardigans, and accessories. The delicate alpaca fibers provide warmth without the weight of a conventional thick yarn.

Available in two exceptionally fine versions — 1000m/100g and 1500m/100g — ALPACA 70 offers different possibilities depending on the color. The finer 1500m version is particularly useful when you want to add a soft alpaca halo while keeping the original fabric lightweight.

Knitting Suggestions
• Companion Yarn: Hold one strand alongside a smooth yarn to add alpaca softness, gentle warmth, and a fluffy halo with relatively little additional weight.
• 1 Strand: 1000–1500m/100g — Very fine lace, suitable for delicate, airy fabrics or as a companion thread.
• 2 Strands (1000m version): Approximately 500m/100g equivalent — Fine lace / light fingering range.
• 3 Strands (1000m version): Approximately 333m/100g equivalent — Fingering range. Try US 1.5–4 (2.5–3.5 mm) as a starting point.
• 3 Strands (1500m version): Approximately 500m/100g equivalent — Fine lace / light fingering range.
• Stitch Patterns: Simple stockinette and garter stitch allow the alpaca halo to soften the appearance of the fabric. Fine stitch details may become less visible beneath the fluffy surface.

Needles & Care
• Needle Selection: The appropriate size depends on the number of strands, companion yarn, and desired fabric density. For three strands of the 1000m version, start with the 2.5–3.5 mm range above.
• Care: Gently hand wash in cool water with detergent suitable for delicate animal fibers. Do not rub, wring, or twist. Reshape and dry flat.
• Swatch: Wash and dry your sample before measuring gauge and evaluating the finished halo, softness, and drape.

Suggested Projects
ALPACA 70 is especially useful for transforming existing yarns into soft, fluffy fabrics. Add a strand to a smooth merino sweater for a delicate alpaca halo, pair it with silk for an airy scarf, or combine it with cashmere for additional texture and warmth.

Worked in multiple strands, it is a lovely option for featherlight sweaters, relaxed cardigans, shawls, scarves, and delicate accessories. Its exceptionally fine meterage makes it particularly interesting for projects where softness and warmth are desired without a heavy fabric.

Formats: Balls (BY DEFAULT) or Cones (PLEASE PURCHASE)

⚑ FOR FULL-CONE SALES, THERE IS NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE FOR THE CONE. Yarn will remain on its original cone.

⚑ FOR YARN THAT IS NOT SOLD AS A FULL CONE BUT IN VARIOUS WOUND WEIGHTS, ALL YARN WILL BE WOUND INTO BALLS BY DEFAULT. CONES ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE YARN PRICE. However, we can wind it onto cones upon request. Cones may be purchased separately if you prefer continuous yardage for machine knitting or multi-strand projects. One color is typically wound per cone to maintain consistency.

PLEASE BUY CONES HERE

Unlike other shops where cone costs are often built into the yarn price—regardless of the format—our pricing is transparent. You pay only for the yarn itself. If you’d like your order wound on a cone, it can be purchased separately. This small additional charge also helps cover packaging differences and the actual cost of the cone. No hidden fees, no inflated markups—just honest, straightforward pricing.

Please Note

  • Please keep in mind: cone yarns, especially those made with extra fine merino or cashmere, may include a protective coating used for industrial knitting. A few gentle washes will allow the yarn to bloom, soften, and reveal its natural texture.
  • Colors are photographed in natural light but may appear slightly different depending on your screen.
  • FOR YARN THAT IS CUSTOM-WOUND, ±1–2g variation per 100g may occur due to winding.
  • Each ball/cone is wound with care and packed securely to ensure it reaches you in perfect condition.

Shipping & Order Processing

Orders are prepared in the order received and typically ship within 3–5 business days. Custom requests such as cone winding may require additional time. Multiple orders placed before shipment may be combined. Shipping refunds are not issued for combined orders.

We ship worldwide with tracking provided. As customs policies and tariffs can change frequently, any duties, taxes, or import fees are the sole responsibility of the buyer. These charges are not collected by us at the time of purchase but are typically paid to your local postal service or customs office upon the arrival of your package.
