SLUBBY is a designer-style Italian lace yarn by Ri.Go, spun from 98% extrafine merino with 2% viscose neps that create those tiny colorful “splashes.” In the yarn world this effect is called nep tweed (also known as Donegal-style speckled tweed): the base stays refined and soft, while the little flecks add texture, depth, and a modern, trendy look.

This is an ultra-fine lace yarn, so single-strand knitting is not recommended for most projects. SLUBBY shines when held in multiple strands — and it’s also fantastic as one companion strand held together with any solid-color yarn to add a subtle tweed/speckled effect.

⚑ Why This Yarn Is Special
Nep tweed / Donegal-style speckle from viscose neps — trendy, textured, and modern
• Extrafine merino base for softness and comfort against skin
• Adds depth to simple stitches: stockinette, ribbing, and textures look richer
Perfect companion strand: hold 1 strand with any solid yarn to get a speckled designer effect

⌁ Texture & Feel
• Soft merino hand with light visual texture from neps
• Speckles are embedded in the yarn (not printed) for a refined, “woven” look
• Blooms and softens after washing and blocking

➤ Recommended Uses
• Sweaters, cardigans, and tops (held in multiple strands)
• Beanies, scarves, cowls, and textured accessories
• Pairing with a solid merino/cashmere/cotton to create a subtle tweed effect
• Great for simple patterns where you want the yarn to do the design work

➤ Recommended Needles
• Single strand is not recommended (extra-fine yarn).
• 2 strands: approx. US 1–3 (2.25–3.25 mm) → ~700 m/100 g
• 3 strands: approx. US 3–5 (3.25–3.75 mm) → ~467 m/100 g
• 4 strands: approx. US 5–7 (3.75–4.5 mm) → ~350 m/100 g
• 5 strands: approx. US 7–9 (4.5–5.5 mm) → ~280 m/100 g (comfortable thickness)
• Swatching is strongly recommended to match your desired fabric

➤ Yarn Usage (Approximate)
• Hat: 80–140 g (held 3–5 strands)
• Scarf: 140–260 g (held 3–5 strands)
• Shawl / Wrap: 180–320 g (held 3–5 strands)
• Sweater / Cardigan: 320–600 g (held 4–5 strands; depends on size & gauge)

➤ Weaving Suitability
• Suitable for weaving with proper tension
• Speckles/neps add a beautiful tweed look in woven fabric as well

⟳ Care Instructions
• Hand wash cold with gentle wool detergent
• Do not wring
• Lay flat to dry
• Block gently to reveal softness and even out the fabric

Formats: Balls (BY DEFAULT) or Cones (PLEASE PURCHASE)

FOR FULL-CONE SALES, THERE IS NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE FOR THE CONE. Yarn will remain on its original cone.

FOR YARN THAT IS NOT SOLD AS A FULL CONE BUT IN VARIOUS WOUND WEIGHTS, ALL YARN WILL BE WOUND INTO BALLS BY DEFAULT. CONES ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE YARN PRICE. However, we can wind it onto cones upon request. Cones may be purchased separately if you prefer continuous yardage for machine knitting or multi-strand projects. One color is typically wound per cone to maintain consistency.

PLEACE BUY CONES HERE

Unlike other shops where cone costs are often built into the yarn price—regardless of the format—our pricing is transparent. You pay only for the yarn itself. If you’d like your order wound on a cone, it can be purchased separately. This small additional charge also helps cover packaging differences and the actual cost of the cone. No hidden fees, no inflated markups—just honest, straightforward pricing.

Please Note

  • Please keep in mind: cone yarns, especially those made with extra fine merino or cashmere, may include a protective coating used for industrial knitting. A few gentle washes will allow the yarn to bloom, soften, and reveal its natural texture.
  • Colors are photographed in natural light but may appear slightly different depending on your screen.
  • FOR YARN THAT IS CUSTOM-WOUND, ±1–2g variation per 100g may occur due to winding.
  • Each ball/cone is wound with care and packed securely to ensure it reaches you in perfect condition.

Shipping & Order Processing

Orders are prepared in the order received and typically ship within 3–5 business days. Custom requests such as cone winding may require additional time. Multiple orders placed before shipment may be combined. Shipping refunds are not issued for combined orders.

We ship worldwide with tracking provided. As customs policies and tariffs can change frequently, any duties, taxes, or import fees are the sole responsibility of the buyer. These charges are not collected by us at the time of purchase but are typically paid to your local postal service or customs office upon the arrival of your package.
