NELSON by Industria Italiana Filati is a luxury Italian DK weight fashion yarn made from 48% Wool, 24% Polyamide, 16% Polyester with Lurex and Paillettes, and 12% Mohair, with approximately 230 meters per 100 g. This elegant textured yarn combines soft warmth, mohair halo, light puffiness, bright but refined sparkle, and beautiful Italian fashion character, making it perfect for sweaters, cardigans, scarves, evening tops, festive knitwear, crochet, and stylish statement pieces.
This is not a heavy or flashy sequin yarn. NELSON already has everything needed to create a beautiful fabric: soft wool structure, airy mohair halo, elegant lurex shine, and bright 2mm paillettes that catch the light beautifully. It is easy to knit, very pleasant to work with, and creates a stylish, puffy, textured fabric even in simple stitches.

⚑ Why This Yarn Is Special
NELSON combines warmth, texture, halo, and sparkle in a refined Italian fashion-yarn construction. The wool creates comfort and body, while the mohair adds softness, atmosphere, and a beautiful fuzzy halo that opens especially nicely after washing.
The lurex is elegant, not cheap-looking, and the 2mm paillettes are bright, visible, and very beautiful in the knitted fabric. They add just enough light and glamour without making the yarn look overly flashy.
This yarn is especially attractive for makers who want a special statement yarn that still feels wearable. It can turn a simple sweater, cardigan, scarf, or evening top into something polished, festive, and designer-looking without requiring complicated stitch patterns.
I would highly recommend watching the video and zooming in closely on the photos to fully appreciate the texture, mohair halo, lurex shine, and beautiful 2mm paillettes in this yarn. The character of NELSON is much more impressive in movement and close-up detail than in standard photos alone.
NELSON is also an excellent choice for knitters inspired by Brunello Cucinelli-style knitwear and modern Italian luxury fashion. The combination of soft wool, mohair halo, elegant lurex, and refined paillettes creates exactly the kind of understated textured glamour often seen in high-end Italian designer sweaters, layering pieces, scarves, and relaxed luxury silhouettes.
✧ Fiber Profile
• Wool — warmth, softness, and breathable comfort
• Mohair — soft halo, lightness, and atmospheric texture
• Polyamide — flexibility, durability, and structure
• Polyester / Lurex / Paillettes — elegant shimmer and decorative sparkle
• Combined Blend — warm textured fabric with refined Italian fashion character
➤ IMPORTANT — Yarn Usage
I knitted my sample in one strand using US size 4 needles, and the yarn was very easy and pleasant to knit. Because of the puffy texture and the structure of the thread, it is also a very nice yarn for beginners — if the stitches are not perfectly even, the yarn helps hide small imperfections beautifully.
After washing, the yarn opened very nicely and developed a lovely mohair halo. The fabric became softer, fuller, and more dimensional. I would rate the softness around 8.5 out of 10. It is not itchy to me, but because this yarn contains wool and mohair, very sensitive skin should keep that in mind.
This yarn works beautifully in one strand. I personally would not add anything else because the yarn already has texture, halo, sparkle, softness, and character. If you want to create a more complex fabric, you can combine it with another yarn, but it is already complete and beautiful on its own.
⋔ Recommended Yarn Usage

✦ Recommended Needles / Hooks
• Knitting needles: approx. US 4 / 3.5 mm for one strand, based on my sample
• Crochet hooks: approx. 3.5–5.0 mm

• Swatching is recommended to evaluate drape, halo, and paillette distribution
⫯ Weaving Suitability
• Suitable for decorative weaving and fashion textiles
• Beautiful for scarves, wraps, and statement woven accessories
• Best used where texture, halo, shimmer, and paillettes remain visible
• Creates elegant reflective fabric with dimensional surface texture
⟳ Care Instructions
• Hand wash gently in cool water

Unlike other shops where cone costs are often built into the yarn price—regardless of the format—our pricing is transparent. You pay only for the yarn itself. If you’d like your order wound on a cone, it can be purchased separately. This small additional charge also helps cover packaging differences and the actual cost of the cone. No hidden fees, no inflated markups—just honest, straightforward pricing.
Please Note
Please Note
- Please keep in mind: cone yarns, especially those made with extra fine merino or cashmere, may include a protective coating used for industrial knitting. A few gentle washes will allow the yarn to bloom, soften, and reveal its natural texture.
- Colors are photographed in natural light but may appear slightly different depending on your screen.
- FOR YARN THAT IS CUSTOM-WOUND, ±1–2g variation per 100g may occur due to winding.
- Each ball/cone is wound with care and packed securely to ensure it reaches you in perfect condition.
