MING is a refined Italian bourette silk yarn created by Zegna Baruffa, Italy from 100% bourette silk in beautiful raw natural colors. With its Nm 2/3000 construction and approximately 1500 meters / 1640 yards per 100 g, this is an extra-fine lace yarn with the softly rustic, matte character that makes bourette silk so special. Unlike smooth, glossy silk, bourette silk has a more natural, organic texture with subtle softness, quiet elegance, and a gently artisanal feel.

This yarn is especially appealing for makers who want silk that feels luxurious but not overly polished. It is light, breathable, and beautifully suited to warm-weather garments. Although it is very fine, it opens up beautifully when worked in multiple strands, creating fabric that feels soft, airy, and naturally elegant. After washing, the fabric becomes even softer and slightly puffier while still keeping the distinctive bourette silk character.

⚑ Why This Yarn Is Special
MING offers the beauty of pure silk in a more natural and understated form. Bourette silk has a dry, elegant, slightly textured character that gives finished fabric depth and softness without looking formal or overly polished. That makes it especially attractive for knitters who love silk but prefer a more relaxed, organic luxury look.

Its extra-fine construction makes it especially versatile for makers who enjoy building their own fabric through strand count. Worked in multiple strands, it becomes a beautiful choice for summer tops, light cardigans, layering pieces, and soft accessories. Because it is such a lovely silk on its own, it is also an excellent choice for projects where you want the bourette character to remain the focus.

➤ IMPORTANT — Yarn Usage
• Single-strand hand knitting: generally too fine for most practical standalone garments
• Best for hand knitting in multiple strands
• Especially beautiful for summer tops, T-shirts, and light cardigans
• A luxurious yarn that works wonderfully on its own
• Can also be blended with other yarns when a different texture or structure is desired
• Suitable for refined crochet and textile work

⋔ Sample Notes
The sample was worked with 4 threads held together. The lower two sections were knitted with US 3 needles, and the upper two sections with US 4 needles. After washing, there was no significant visual difference between the two needle sizes. The fabric became softer and slightly puffier, while keeping its elegant bourette silk character.

⋔ Recommended Yarn Usage
Actual usage depends on strand count, stitch pattern, and desired fabric.

• Summer top or T-shirt: approx. 200–300 g
• Lightweight cardigan: approx. 250–400 g
• Shawl or wrap: approx. 100–250 g
• Scarf: approx. 100–180 g
• Lightweight sweater: approx. 300–450 g
• Dress or longer layering piece: approx. 450–650 g

➤ Recommended Pairings From iDOKNiT
MING is especially beautiful on its own, but it can also pair well with other fibers for makers who enjoy building custom fabrics.

Fine Merino
Adds elasticity and more everyday practicality while preserving softness.

Cotton
Keeps the fabric breathable and natural for warm-weather garments.

Linen
Enhances the airy, organic, textural quality.

Soft Silk Companions
Add more fluidity and depth while keeping the project refined.

These pairings make MING appealing both for pure bourette silk projects and for more experimental multi-strand fabrics.

✦ Recommended Needles / Hooks
• For 4 strands held together, start around US 3–4 / 3.25–3.5 mm
• Adjust based on the amount of drape or structure you want
• Swatching is essential, especially after washing, to see the final softness and bloom

⫯ Weaving Suitability
• Suitable for refined lightweight weaving projects
• Beautiful for scarves, wraps, and textured silk fabric development
• Especially appealing where natural matte silk texture is desired

⟳ Care Instructions
• Hand wash gently in cool water with mild detergent
• Do not wring or twist
• Lay flat to dry and reshape while damp
• The fabric softens beautifully after washing
• Wash swatch before final sizing calculations

Formats: Balls (BY DEFAULT) or Cones (PLEASE PURCHASE)

FOR FULL-CONE SALES, THERE IS NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE FOR THE CONE. Yarn will remain on its original cone.

FOR YARN THAT IS NOT SOLD AS A FULL CONE BUT IN VARIOUS WOUND WEIGHTS, ALL YARN WILL BE WOUND INTO BALLS BY DEFAULT. CONES ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE YARN PRICE. However, we can wind it onto cones upon request. Cones may be purchased separately if you prefer continuous yardage for machine knitting or multi-strand projects. One color is typically wound per cone to maintain consistency.

PLEASE BUY CONES HERE

Unlike other shops where cone costs are often built into the yarn price—regardless of the format—our pricing is transparent. You pay only for the yarn itself. If you’d like your order wound on a cone, it can be purchased separately. This small additional charge also helps cover packaging differences and the actual cost of the cone. No hidden fees, no inflated markups—just honest, straightforward pricing.

Please Note

  • Please keep in mind: cone yarns, especially those made with extra fine merino or cashmere, may include a protective coating used for industrial knitting. A few gentle washes will allow the yarn to bloom, soften, and reveal its natural texture.
  • Colors are photographed in natural light but may appear slightly different depending on your screen.
  • FOR YARN THAT IS CUSTOM-WOUND, ±1–2g variation per 100g may occur due to winding.
  • Each ball/cone is wound with care and packed securely to ensure it reaches you in perfect condition.

Shipping & Order Processing

Orders are prepared in the order received and typically ship within 3–5 business days. Custom requests such as cone winding may require additional time. Multiple orders placed before shipment may be combined. Shipping refunds are not issued for combined orders.

These charges are not collected by us at the time of purchase but are typically paid to your local postal service or customs office upon the arrival of your package.
