PROFILO BOUCLÉ is an elegant Italian 70% Superkid Mohair / 30% Silk yarn with an irregular looped construction that creates texture directly in the yarn. The tiny bouclé loops vary naturally in size, giving even simple knitting a beautiful dimensional surface without requiring complicated stitch patterns.

At 900m/100g (984y/3.52oz), this is a remarkably lightweight yarn with many possibilities. Knit it alone for an airy textured fabric, hold multiple strands together for additional body, or combine it with a smooth companion yarn to add Superkid Mohair halo and delicate bouclé texture. After washing, the yarn becomes noticeably softer and develops a beautiful halo while the little loops remain visible.

➤ My First Impressions
I knitted my sample in one strand on US 4 (3.5 mm) needles, and I was surprised by how easy this bouclé was to knit. The loops did not make the knitting difficult at all.

What I especially love is the irregularity of the bouclé. The little rings are not perfectly uniform—some are smaller and others more pronounced—and that is exactly what makes the finished fabric so charming and elegant.

After washing, the difference is beautiful. The yarn becomes much softer and develops a lovely Superkid Mohair boucle halo, but the halo does not hide the bouclé. You can still see the tiny loops throughout the fabric, surrounded by soft mohair fibers. The combination is unusual, delicate, and very beautiful. I highly recommend this yarn.

✦ Texture & Feel
• Fine, lightweight bouclé construction
• Irregular loops create natural surface texture
• Superkid Mohair develops a beautiful halo after washing
• Silk adds strength and refinement to the fine structure
• Considerably softer after wet finishing
• Bouclé loops remain visible through the finished halo
• Creates visual interest even in simple stockinette

⚑ Why This Yarn Is Special
BOUCLÉ combines two different types of texture in one yarn: the dimensional loops of bouclé and the soft halo of Superkid Mohair. After washing, these two characteristics work together rather than one hiding the other.

This makes the yarn especially useful when you want an interesting fabric without complicated knitting. Simple stockinette, relaxed shapes, oversized silhouettes, scarves, or straightforward cardigan designs allow the yarn itself to become the decorative element.

✧ Fiber Profile
70% Superkid Mohair — provides lightness, warmth, softness, and the characteristic halo that develops after washing
30% Silk — supports the fine construction while adding strength, smoothness, and subtle refinement
Bouclé structure — introduces irregular loops and dimensional texture throughout the fabric

➤ Strand Weight Guide
• 1 strand — Lace — 900m/100g (984y/3.52oz)
• 2 strands — Fingering — 450m/100g (492y/3.52oz)
• 3 strands — Sport — 300m/100g (328y/3.52oz)
• 4 strands — DK — 225m/100g (246y/3.52oz)
• 5 strands — Aran — 180m/100g (197y/3.52oz)
• 6 strands — Chunky — 150m/100g (164y/3.52oz)
• 8 strands — Roving — 113m/100g (123y/3.52oz)

➤ Multi-Strand Gauge & Needles Guide
• 1 strand — Lace — 900m/100g — US 4 (3.5 mm) personally tested; creates a lightweight fabric while allowing the loops and halo room to show
• 2 strands — Fingering — 450m/100g — US 3–5 (3.25–3.75 mm)
• 3 strands — Sport — 300m/100g — US 4–6 (3.5–4.0 mm)
• 4 strands — DK — 225m/100g — US 5–7 (3.75–4.5 mm)
• 5 strands — Aran — 180m/100g — US 7–9 (4.5–5.5 mm)
• Use a larger needle when you want a lighter, more open fabric that gives the bouclé loops and mohair halo additional room
• Use a smaller needle for a denser, warmer fabric with more concentrated texture
• Always wash and dry your swatch before choosing the final gauge—the Superkid Mohair blooms noticeably after washing

➤ IMPORTANT — Yarn Usage
BOUCLÉ is beautiful on its own, and my one-strand sample on US 4 (3.5 mm) needles produced a very lightweight textured fabric.

Holding multiple strands together increases body and warmth while concentrating the bouclé effect. Another excellent option is to hold one strand of BOUCLÉ with a smooth companion yarn. The smooth yarn provides the base fabric while BOUCLÉ introduces irregular loops and a soft mohair halo across the surface.

Because the texture already provides the visual interest, complicated stitch patterns are usually unnecessary. This is an excellent yarn for projects where the yarn itself is the design.

⋔ Recommended Yarn Usage
• Lightweight sweaters and relaxed pullovers
• Cardigans and layering pieces
• Oversized or simple contemporary silhouettes
• Shawls and wraps
• Scarves and cowls
• Hats and textured accessories
• Decorative cuffs, collars, borders, and contrasting garment sections
• Companion-yarn projects where additional halo and surface texture are desired

➤ Approximate Yarn Requirements
• Lightweight sweater: 200–300g / 7.1–10.6oz
• Cardigan: 250–350g / 8.8–12.3oz
• Vest: 150–250g / 5.3–8.8oz
• Shawl or wrap: 100–200g / 3.5–7.1oz
• Scarf: 75–150g / 2.6–5.3oz
• Hat or small accessories: 50–100g / 1.8–3.5oz
Actual requirements depend on garment size, gauge, needle size, construction, and whether BOUCLÉ is knitted alone or with another yarn.

➤ Recommended Pairings / Complete Choice From iDOKNiT
BOUCLÉ works best with smooth companion yarns that provide a stable background while allowing its tiny loops and Superkid Mohair halo to remain visible.

CASHWOOL by Zegna Baruffa — 100% Extrafine Merino; adds elasticity and a smooth base underneath the bouclé texture
HARMONY by Tollegno 1900 — 100% Extra Fine Merino; excellent when you want additional softness and body without competing with the surface effect
LORO PIANA CASHMERE — fine 100% Cashmere; creates an exceptionally lightweight luxury combination while adding Cashmere warmth and softness
CRISTALLO by Filati Power — Extrafine Merino / Silk / Cashmere; adds body and softness while complementing BOUCLÉ's Silk content
QUARANTALINO by Toscano — ultra-fine 100% Linen; an interesting choice when you want crisp Linen structure underneath the soft mohair loops
PAILLETTES by PROFILO — 98% Cashmere with delicate paillettes; for a more decorative fabric combining subtle sparkle, Cashmere softness, bouclé loops, and halo

Complete Choice — Needles
US 4 (3.5 mm) — personally tested and my starting recommendation for one strand
US 5 (3.75 mm) — a good option when you want slightly more openness and room for the halo
US 6 (4.0 mm) — worth testing for a more relaxed, airy fabric or when BOUCLÉ is combined with a fine companion yarn
• Smooth, pointed knitting needles are especially useful for working comfortably with the irregular looped structure

Project Ideas
• Knit a simple lightweight sweater entirely in BOUCLÉ and let the irregular loops create the surface design
• Hold BOUCLÉ with fine Merino or Cashmere for a fuller luxury sweater with a textured halo
• Use it only for cuffs, collar, borders, or selected panels to introduce texture into an otherwise smooth garment
• Combine it with PAILLETTES for a special statement piece with soft texture and delicate points of light

⫯ Weaving Suitability

• Excellent as a decorative weft yarn
• Adds looped texture and a soft mohair surface to woven fabrics
• Particularly attractive for scarves, wraps, panels, and textile accents
• For warp use, sample first because the irregular bouclé loops can experience additional abrasion under tension

⟳ Care Instructions
• Hand wash gently in cool water using a detergent suitable for Mohair and Silk
• Do not rub, wring, or aggressively agitate
• Gently press excess water out with a towel
• Reshape and lay flat to dry
• Allow the fabric to dry completely so the Superkid Mohair halo can develop
• Always wash and dry a swatch before beginning your project

Formats: Balls (BY DEFAULT) or Cones (PLEASE PURCHASE)

FOR FULL-CONE SALES, THERE IS NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE FOR THE CONE. Yarn will remain on its original cone.

FOR YARN THAT IS NOT SOLD AS A FULL CONE BUT IN VARIOUS WOUND WEIGHTS, ALL YARN WILL BE WOUND INTO BALLS BY DEFAULT. CONES ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE YARN PRICE. However, we can wind it onto cones upon request. Cones may be purchased separately if you prefer continuous yardage for machine knitting or multi-strand projects. One color is typically wound per cone to maintain consistency.

PLEASE BUY CONES HERE

Unlike other shops where cone costs are often built into the yarn price—regardless of the format—our pricing is transparent. You pay only for the yarn itself. If you’d like your order wound on a cone, it can be purchased separately. This small additional charge also helps cover packaging differences and the actual cost of the cone. No hidden fees, no inflated markups—just honest, straightforward pricing.

Please Note

  • Please keep in mind: cone yarns, especially those made with extra fine merino or cashmere, may include a protective coating used for industrial knitting. A few gentle washes will allow the yarn to bloom, soften, and reveal its natural texture.
  • Colors are photographed in natural light but may appear slightly different depending on your screen.
  • FOR YARN THAT IS CUSTOM-WOUND, ±1–2g variation per 100g may occur due to winding.
  • Each ball/cone is wound with care and packed securely to ensure it reaches you in perfect condition.

Shipping & Order Processing

Orders are prepared in the order received and typically ship within 3–5 business days. Custom requests such as cone winding may require additional time. Multiple orders placed before shipment may be combined. Shipping refunds are not issued for combined orders.

We ship worldwide with tracking provided. As customs policies and tariffs can change frequently, any duties, taxes, or import fees are the sole responsibility of the buyer. These charges are not collected by us at the time of purchase but are typically paid to your local postal service or customs office upon the arrival of your package.
